PLEASE REPORT BLOODY SORES AND RASHES ON STRIPERS

I don't know if this was already posted but thought it was important enough to have it twice...... I saw this at surfaster.com

The American Littoral Society (ALS), U.of Maryland and National Marine Fisheries are coordinating a study of Bloody Rashes or Red Sores being found on coastal stripers this season.

The disease, mycobacteriosis, is often found in farm-raised bass but now seems to be appearing in wild striped bass also. The condition initially affects the fish's internal organs, but can lead to outward sores.

If you catch one of these fish:

1. Handle it as little as possible.

2. If you handle it, wash your hands with antibacterial soap or wipe your hands thoroughly with alcohol. Bacteria can penetrate your hands through any small cuts and can lead to swelling and pain in fingers or hand.

3. Do not eat the fish.

4. Take a picture of it, if possible.

If you are a Tagger for ALS you either have or will receive this notice.
