Have you guys seen this?

You want a large soft plastic for going after large striped bass?

I was flipping through my JannsNetCraft catalog looking at stuff and I went to the soft plastics section and they have an 18 inch worm that's one inch in diameter.

This was meant as a gag gift but this might be just the thing. A rubber bait with realistic dimentions. You can also get the worm hook that comes with it, a 14/0 offset hook! :o

I've seen things like that at shows. I suppose you could use it more like an eel immitation rather than a worm. But IMO I don't think it's meant to be taken seriously.

How much did they want for it? That's usually a clue.

Tim Coleman is a big advocate of large worms with jig heads. He uses black and red soft plastic worms on a 1 ounce jig and he does pretty well with them.

I think the 18 inches might be a bit much... But if you trolled one behind a boat, put a stinger hook on the back. Let's see, hollow out the worm into more of a tube like device and hang a clamworm on the back stinger hook - you'd probably do pretty good.... :D

it wasn't that expensive. It was like close to two bucks.

Trollers routinely use very large surg tub lures for bass so I don't see why a big rubber worm couldn't be tried too.

BTW, did you see the article in the latest Saltwater Sportsman about tube trolling?

Jaiem,

I was (jokingly) referring to the 'ole Tube and Worm. While I do maybe 5% of my annual fishing on a boat those 4 or 5 times often involve the tube and worm with a clamworm hanging off the back :P trolled across the edges of rock piles... I think I may have glanced at that article. That was the same issue that had the article on fishing Sqets, right?

John - Think so. It's the one in the mag racks right now.

what is a clam worm ??? is that the same thing as a sea worm?

Don M 04-26-2001 01:54 PM

Sand Worm, sea worm, clam worm and most of all striper candy.
