thru drilling on a standard lathe

i understand you can get a chuck to fit the end of a lathe, question i have is how do you lock it in place to be able to end bore a plug.. i have a lot of turning experience, but never attempted to endbore anything.. if you know of a link i can view
to see how its done, by all means post it..

thanks

the chuck comes with a taper to slide into where the spur went. Hold plug in place, line up and either use the crank or just slide the whole live center thingy.

I don't have any pictures, but it is refered to as line boring. You might find something.

Buy a chuck that is mounted on a taper that matches your lathe. Most of the mini lathes have a #1 MT (Morse Taper) the full sized wood lathes usually have #2 MT and metal working lathes can go up from there.

Slip has the technique down. I usually drill both ends with a short bit and go back and connect them with a long bit.
