Compressor
I'm not thinking immediately here but after I get a job I'm going to upgrade some tools. What I'm wondering is what reasonably priced compressor can serve many functions between driving an airbrush, automitive / body air tools, and spraying larger paint / gel coat?
Just looking for suggestions before lining up some ducks! Thanks |
$249.00

Like one of those small 2 tank Emglow compressors, that would do the trick John. Do NOT get an oilless.

u r gonna
need something with a 26 gal air tank or better to run air tools-and the big IR compressors run $800 or more:(

For air tools I'm just thinking occasional air ratchet / gun / grinder, that's all. Do you think I'll need that kind of capacity?
Thanks, John |
I have a small (2 1/2 gal) pancake compressor from Home Cheapo. It's pretty good little unit. I tried running a small die grinder off of it to grind welds, but it just doesn't have the air capacity. It's fine for an airbrush and short bursts with a rachet/impact wrench. If you look around you can usually find a similar compressor bundled with some sort of a cheap tool kit for < $200.00.

No you don't need that kind of capacity. If you get a decent enough comp. with a decent amount of CFM, then it should be fine with small tanks. The unit will run more often with a spray gun or constant use obviously.
I got by for years spraying laquer with an 11 gallom 2hp comp. and I still have it actually, you want it? Now I have a 60 gallon 220 volt industrial one. |
John watch Sears they have some pretty good deals, I got that 33 gallon jobbie on sale for $279.00 it's made by Devilbiss.

John, I'm a mechanic and I have a 4hp portable oilless compressor with a 20 gal. tank that I do all my sidework and free work(family cars) and it's worked great for about 10 years now, and I work the crap out of it. I have pulled and rebuilt about a million trannys with it. They go for about $250 or so.

Get one with at least 6 cfm @ 90 psi . That is what it takes to run a die grinder/ mini cutoff wheel. That is the most useful tool I have thats pnuematic. I cant tell you how much time it saves me when I need to cut something that would require a hacksaw. I got a Coleman 5 hp/ 30 gal at Costco for $229 and it's great. It is an upright model, so it takes up less floor space in the garage. Dont get one too small, cuz you'll eventually need to upgrade.

Hi John, if your still looking Sears in Woonsocket has one on clearence. I was gonna pick it up but I didn't have the cash, It's a 3 or 4 hp on a 30 gallon tank. I think they wanted 219 on clearence, I'd call first to see if it's still there for that price.
