Non wood pikie
 

A friend gave me a few pieces of urethane plank to try turning so I turned a giant pikie. (Gonna be around 6ozs) It has about the same weight as AYC and floats. The only drawback I have seen is that it is messy to turn (it shoots a fine ribbon of material right back at you) and is kind of hard on the tools. Once a chisel starts to get dull it chatters. I sanded it and sealed it with sand and seal, let it dry and primed it.

I did one like that but it had too much roll. I don't think you need to seal it, just prime and paint.

I plan on using that stuff for needles.

Well here it is positioned next to its mentor. The blue beauty was made by Mike Fixter and I did the redheaded one. It is slightly heavier than I expected and will tip the scales at 6.7ozs after it gets its coat of epoxy.

6.7 oz, you outta be able to ward off any surfer dudes with that!:p

I got a needle that slipped turned and I finished off last winter of that plastic stuff. the only thing is in the sanding process because of the friction it started to soften up and I had to let it cool down a couple times before finishing the sanding otherwise it worked great and it held up real nice to the fish it caught this season. Keep up the nice work!
