Penn is discontinuing 710Z

Just got word form one of my reps that Penn is discontinuing 710Z

Now I know it is not as much of a reel compared to reels of today but boy these reels never broke.Guess that it now must join the other reels in moth balls like the old Garcia Mitchells and D.A.M Quicks.

What reels have you used that are not made any more.

I have a couple Abu 6000C reels in cherry shape that I used up until 3 years ago. I have pictures (somewhere, I'd like to find them again) of me whne I was 3 or 4 years old with my grandfather fishing Sandy Point, MD with them. I have an old Dam on a 12.5 glass Fenwick surf rod also inherited from my grandfather...

Don't forget, the ole' push buttom Zebbies have gone down the clockwise swirly too...

3 old Mitchells--a 302, a 386 and a 486. Plus a Luxor 300 in pieces, and a Crack 300.

I'll take a Penn 706 over any of them.

I have a Penn 720Z. I think thats what it is. It needs a new bail spring and a new line roller and drag washers. And its missing some screw configuration on the side of the rotor part. I don't know if I can still get them or not.

It's a good reel. I don't see it mentioned anywhere. Holds 200 yards of 6 lb test.

Well I just went to Penn's website to see if I could get diagrams. As it turns out, there is no bail spring to this model. It has a "bail realease". That's the little doo hickey I'm missing on the rotor cup. So the three things I need are the Drag washers, the line roller, and the bail release mechanism and the reel will be ready to go.

I'm gonna wash it up tomorrow, then run it over to the shop and tell him the stuff I need and pray that he can get it.

I have two 710z reels. A good reel but had a problem with evey eighth turn, the handle would catch the bail. I finaly bent the handle outward slightly to correct it.

... Oh yeh, I have 2 Penn 940 "Levelmatics" from the sixties that are practically new. Don't get fished at all...

Let's see... an Airex FW spinning reel
Fw & SW Mitchell's in a variety of models which I don't remember (300 & 302, & ?? ).
A RuMer SW spinning reel
Penn 970 Conventional ... too small ... too heavy
A couple of Ocean City bottom fishing reels
A bunch of FW baitcasters (Shakespear, Shimano, Lew's , etc )
A couple of Penn 710's (no Z)
Penn 750SS
A Shakespeare Anti-Reverse SW fly reel

I have a Garcia Mitchell 301 (left handed 300) and the matching garcia Mitchell 5908B rod. I retired them in 1990 when they reached 25 years old. They were my pride and joy at age 12.

I had an old Southbend flyreel , same vintage as the Mitchell 301 but I can't find it lately. Still have the flyrod though.
