new to plug building
I have recently inherited a wood lathe from my father in law. I am
really interested in trying to turn out some plugs, can anyone give me some direction as far as what types of wood you all use and types of hardware. I have multiple airbrushes and paints. I am hoping to maybe develop a hobby for the upcoming winter months |
To start with, you can get hardwood dowels or 2" x 2" poplar squares for cheap and play around until you get the hang of it. When I started I just pulled a plug out of my bag that I wanted to imitate and put it down next to the lathe for reference.

2x2 ballisters of cedar are good to start with if you don't have a table saw for ripping. Do some searching here and you will find all kinds of tips.
Stainless welding wire is good for thru wiring. Buy a good drill bit. |
thanks guys, i will probably purchase a bunch of 2" X 2" 's and
start getting used to the lathe. i have noticed alot of plugs with a scale type pattern on them. are you guys using a type of screen as a stencil? |
I'm using a wedding veil material. You can find it a fabric stores or Walmart in the fabric section.
