unix question -r or -R

I get lots of chit (well deserved)when I ask the same question twice, but I also get comments like "if you stayed off that site more you'd know more", well help me prove my coworkers wrong.

I'm in unix land which is quite different from the mainframe world, I'm upgrading a some software called qpasa and I'm trying to copy an entire directory to a another directory by doing
"cp * /<directory>" (I'm in the directory I want to copy)
but it's asking for a -R or a -r. does anyone know which I should do? Its a development box, so its where mistakes are to be made.

Thanks in advance.

Belay my last, I had to go down one more directory to the platform I was on.
Good fun.

Do you guys have the man pages installed? You can look up most of the common commands with the man command.

we do, thanks scoobe I forgot about those. The command ended up working when I went to correct directory.
