Yankee clipper 12/13
Not a great day. Alarm didn't work, we had to rush over to Gloucester, and made it just before the boat left at 7AM. Hopped on. Things were going OK - 2-4 foot seas, we ran about 4 miles offshore until the wind started picking up. 4-6 foot seas. Then, 6-8. The boat was soaked in water, deck with all slush and rails with icycles, my reel was all frozen. The wind was really bad, at one time I could not feel my hands at all. The captain decided to do a turnaround - that was it, no fishing today. The weather cancelled once again.
Nevertheless a fun boat ride.....but I haven't fished in a month now, between cancelled trips and things like this....:( Can't try again tomorrow due to the storm. My next trip is an One day Georges on the Frances fleet 12/27 with Mike, 10PM-10PM. Hope the weather is merciful, and the trip fills up so they leave! Well that was the report....tight lines!! |
"If at first you don't succeed...":D

i know. im not giving up. its just dissapointing, hearing that sudden "so im gonna call it a day" from the captain. and its still dissapointing, 6 hours later.
im praying for good weather and a good trip on my overnight georges 12/27 frances trip now...:D |
Fished south of Newport today for Tog,
NW winds 25kts+ and no fish, was a short trip, 2 other boats, from PJ were out doing the same as us.... Zippo A couple more tries then it's time to call it a season.... 'hound |

Sorry i had to laugh just now... but confirm your going to georges before you board the boat.. i know it's an overnighter.. but last 4 trips (full day) for cod turned to scup/seabass.. |
I went on the Frances Fleet once!! only once!
|
its georges.
who would waste $50 on a day cod trip in RI anyway? |
I tend to agree with Macojoe on the only once deal!
Unfortunately I gave them a second shot and found it the same pathetic trip! They cater to the regulars way too much on that boat! You would think a seasoned captain would realize that he should make his drifts so that everyone gets a shot at the fish. Not just the same way so that the same side of the boat continues to fish under the boat all day! Oh yeah! Forgot to mention that both the captain and the mates fish and take up the prime spots on the boat during the drift! NEVER AGAIN!!! WHO WOULD WASTE $50 ON THAT BOAT ANYWAY??? |
Capt Frank is the owner and really watches a buck. I've done 25 Tuna tips on the Lady Frances and did pretty good. I switched to the Yankee Capts this year for the accomodations and the food. The hanging bunks on Yankee is a lot better than sleeping on plywood!

$50?? i remember someone telling me it was 50 but i thought they were joking... last i paid was $35 for day cod trips.. yes the mates do fish on drifts.. never seen the capt fish on cod runs. Oh bring a friend too incase you need to gaff.. hehe..
Hell no pay 50 for a coxes run.. ooh coupons too.. neways.. i went out to georges on the frances forgot what i paid... he set everyone up on hangs big time... let people catch fish for a bit then redrifted again... i remember a mate lauging with the other about running out of jigs and selling 24oz sinkers for 4bucks... needless to say i left 2 $20 jigs at the bottom and came home with 4 cod to 25lbs.. biggest cod on the boat was 35 or so.. At work on Monday the electrician who fished the Helen H caught 10+ cod all over 30. |
