Big bills at xmas
Grumpage, I think I need a muffler for my jeep, expecting a bill of $150. Get the call "big crack in th exhaust mainifold won't pass inspection without it"
$640 a week before christmas :af: |
*ouch* THAT much for a muffler?

The muffler was $100 + labor, the exhaust manifold was the big $.

JB Weld.......$5.69......
I had my doubts, but that stuff is awesome......just repaired a reel part (that you can't get anymore) with it, and had my doubts it would work, but it's as good as new........ And I'm told it works just as well for exhaust manifolds......... |
More good news, only 90x less than what I paid.
I wonder what the mechanics return policy is, I still have my receipt :wall: |
Steve , do tell more about JB Weld.

I dunno Jake....Paul Harvey touts the stuff on his WBZ noontime broadcast.....was always skeptical.....it's a two part epoxy that supposedly hardens like steel, and then can be machined.....was always skeptical.....I broke an aluminum part to this "cheapo" reel I was cleaning up to give to my father to use....couldn't get the part, even at Bucko's.....so, figured, what the hey, bought the stuff to give it a shot, "glued" it together....and I was skeptical (did I say that before?...;))...
Held together just like a weld.....and I took a dremel to it to clean up the slop in the groove of the part, and it machined just like metal.......tried to break the "glued" piece off with my fingers with all my might, and it wouln't budge..........so I guess I'm sold.... And I hear that it works like that on engine parts as well, even hi-temp applications.......... |
Follow the directions...
stuff can be a real $ saver, and.. they ain't kidding, you can drill and tap it! Had an ear on an alternator bracket, with a threaded hole, cracked in the middle of the hole, couldn't find another bracket, and was running low on time.. my buddy said , just try this, really! Well I mixed it up, (two parts), filled the crack and most of the threaded hole, let it dry.. drilled it out, tapped it.
Had every intention of getting the right part later, but never did. I drove that thing for 4 years and it never came apart, guy I sold it to drove it for 2 more, before the engine quit!, bracket still held. |
Man, thanks ...always looking for new Wonder Goop! Back in the day Marine tex would do the job, but this stuff sounds like the more reliable son of...
|
I used it to repair cintrifugal pumps. Works great on the cast iron housings.
I'm not sure of heat ratings |
