Ripped off the line off of my 2 boat rods I use for bottom fishing, Tautog,fluke,flounder, etc. Was wondering what the consensus was on using spiderwire, I have heard that it helps you feel everyhing, my only problem is I sometimes troll with one of these poles can you troll with this line? Pro's Con's of using this stuff?

I use Spiderwire and other braids on all my rigs. It does provide excellent feel, is very durable, and the diameter is thin. You need to learn to tie your knots a little different, improved clinch nots will not hold, the line can slip and it can cut through itself. I also usually run Flourocarbon leaders tied to a SPRO swivel. If you put it on spinning reels, it can and will knot up. the SPRO swivels help alot with this.

The new Berkly stuff works great and ties a good Knot. You can get a big spool for a good price on Ebay.

I use Spiderwire all the time on almost everything. I comercial Fluke and Bass and it is great!! I use to respool line dozens of times a season with mono! Now I can leave my line on there for at least 2 seasons. I always use a flor leader for day fishing!
But I have found at least in my areas of fishing that flro does not work well at night?? I found that In the dark the Berkley Big game Green is the thing to use.

Spiderwire and all the other brands of this new line are great. I have used the same spool for 6 years commercial fluke fishing. It is bleached out to a white color. I don't like it at night because if you get fouled with someone else using the same line, just save time and reach for a knife. I also use it on a spinning reel with live eels. This stuff is so thin, the backing will be sufficient for use should the worst happen. Good Luck and think Spring

I used to use fireline on my bottom fishing reels, I switched to power pro last season and I like that even better. Superbraids are the way to go for bottom fishing.

Power Pro is one of the best. The name slipped my mind. I was pleasantly surprised to find it on sale at Wal-Mart. The sale price was a little higher than cheap mono. I bought all they had. This stuff is hard to tie. I use the recommended knot on the package plus burn the end with a lighter, then a drop of liquid knot lock. This sounds like an ordeal but it is not. It lasts forever. The line never breaks, only the leader. If you get hung up on the bottom, cleat it off before you cut your hands.

I use a knife handle, gaff handle or anything similar to break off a hang up. Just take the wrap and point the rod at where the line enters the water. Either the leader or the knot will give. I don't use any special knot, just a good old Palomar.
