The Cabo PT's look pretty sweet. Except for a little higher price, could give ABU's a run for their money. A few nice features to justify the extra cost though like the stronger frame and side plates, etc. Parts availability might be the biggest issue though. I wouldn't mind checking them out.

I will have the larger sizes in the shop and online hopefully by Mid Feb.

Based on my past experience with Quantum, I'd hold off until some positive feedback came in, after a season of hard use.

I'm mixed on the Quantums - I have a Big Iron 410 baitcaster and the things always solid - plus I know someone that got a 53#er on one so they can handle big fish. Problem I had with them was parts... I Broke the levelwind pawl cap and could not get the parts - they said I needed to ship the reel back :rollem:

Doesn't look like they have a water proof drag system:(

I have a couple freshwater quantums but I would be leary of them in the salt . Id wait for someone else to give it a real good run in the salt before Id consider them . but thats just me !

i was watching the fishing show that shaw grisby hosts yesterday morning. he was fishing from a boat using the new quantum PT spinners and convench's. they were targeting small school tuna. the reels performed extremely well! i liked how these new reels looked when i first saw them in a cataolog, but was leary about using a quantum. if i had a need for another conventional, i would give serious thought to them. quantum can't be all bad, after all, as they are owned by Van Zebco.......

Toby---I think Jeff used to have a Quantum Iron. He and #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& got theirs about the same time, as I recall. I think he told me it was a decent reel "for one season" ;)

tlapinski 01-04-2004 01:39 PM

doesn't Flaptail throw quantum irons?

TheSpecialist 01-04-2004 07:10 PM

I have used a 4000 sized Quantum Kinetic 2 seasons now and have had no problems. I may try one.
