FANTASTIC Presntation on Block Island and the Snow Storm Blitz....

...of the 80s at the Newport Club tonight. DZ did a great job telling his story and the story of a few (or many if you were fortunate to be there :D ) Surfcasters that took part in a blitz that one could only dream of particpating in.

DZ has done extensive research (in addition to being there) on this period and put together an excellent presentation. I learned a lot from it and can't wait to get back there again.

Dennis - great job & thanks!!!!

Thanks DZ, that really was a great story, very nicely told. Its the situation that every surfcaster dreams about, and I went to bed with stripers swimming in my head last night!

Yeah I second that, great presentation... I think alot of guys could have thrown something togethor, but it takes someone with alot of resolve to go through all that effort to get so much detail from all of the characters involved, and says alot about our club prez.... Great Job DZ!!!

Also, it was great to meet a bunch of guys from here; Eben, Goosefish, Toonoc; we'll have to do a so-co meeting at the mist some night and BS over fish tacos!

Crafty, Bliz, Joe L; great meeting you too,

Anyone else I missed, make the trip over the bridge more often; it's a great club.... Third thursdays of every month in the winter, laid back and low key club, but some great fishermen!

JohnR, EdB and everyone else it was great to see you guys, Ed I'll get back to you with some info if I can find some....

Dennis did an outstanding job with the presentation last nite for those who decided to brave the frigid weather. It was great to listen to a 1st hand account of what is every surfcaster's dream while you could look out the windows of the yacht club and see Artic sea smokes rising out of Newport Harbor.

Also had a chance to talk to Habs and get a first glimpse of some examples of his new Elite series of plugs - wait'll you guys get a load of these, the color schemes and finishes were unbelievable and they're gonna be sportin' 6x VMC's. You'll be blown away.

Old Habanero has really kicked it up a notch - BAM!

It was freezzzin last night, I had a bowl of that fish chowda and dose of Denis and you could almost put yourself their waders, block surf casters that is. Listening to a good presentation can give you a world of confidence and good idea of the island itself.

All of Dz's hard work and many hours came together just right......Thanks

RIROCKHOUND 01-16-2004 12:38 PM

I have a bad cold. I really wanted to go see the presentation. Maybe next time.

It was good to see such a strong turnout of the many fine fisherman that we had in that room to hear Dennis give his talk. You know when that many guys show up in zero degree weather, they only do it to hear the real deal from a top notch surf fisherman. Thanks a million to DZ for doing the talk and for the countless hours that it took to document such an event and get it into presentation and slide show format.

It was good to see all the guys and some new faces and names that I have not met before. Uncle Crafty is back out from the photocave ;) , John R is a high rolling IT guy again  , Tattoo is still a relentless plug slut who will do anything for a Redfin :smash: , Ed B still has no mackerel rebels  , and Durbin makes one hell of a chowder :D .

Thanks Bryan, any info or contacts you can get will be muchly appreciated. :)

Thanks for all the kind words!

Dz I was telling my girlfriend a brief synopsis of your lecture because she was living out on BI in the late 80's.... anyway, I told her about you standing there watching the smaller ferry make 2 passes at the harbor entrance, and then peel off back to point judith..... She went white in the face and said she was on that ferry and thought she was going to die... small world!

chris L 01-16-2004 03:15 PM

no bryan wasnt me , no beard .

RIROCKHOUND 01-16-2004 03:16 PM

Hmmm... mustve been someone else then.....

Canalman 01-16-2004 05:47 PM

Presentataion was so in depth it actually pained me to listen and look, although I was sitting right behind the guy who couldn't make it out there because of the storm. Watching him cringe and shaking his head looked even more painful. Poor guy. Anyway really got me fired up to go fishing and there's still A LOT of time to go :( . THANKS AND GREAT JOB DZ!!!!!

Ed, it was good to see you too last nite - soon enough we're gonna be on the rocks at 'that' spot we both seem to like :D

It was good to meet some S-B'ers at DZ's show that I hadn't met yet like Toonoc, Joe Lyons, Goose, RIRockhound, et al - and seeing the usual suspects like Bloo (says he's gettin' hitched in Sept - gotta talk him into January when there's no bass around anyway), Milo, Habs, Tattoo and JohnR with a big grin on his face.

And Iron Mike told me he's got a computer now and might be online sometime soon. Or it could be just another idle threat...:laughs:

Meanwhile we got some shows to hit and help the rest of the winter pass - I'm gonna need something, Dennis' show sure gave me a bad case of fishing pox.

Crafty Angler 01-16-2004 11:56 PM

HEY ED!

I just had a brainstorm...:eek5:

What about getting a bus from Viking Tours (hmmmmm, let's see, do we know anybody there?) for an NCSWFC "field trip" to the Mass Bass Show - whaddya think? We could bring it up at the next meeting in February - I think there'd be some interest from quite a few guys and Viking has several different size buses.

Shoot me a PM and let me know what you think.
