Anyone Running Boston This April?
Anyone running Boston this April?
Thinking of going as a bandit again after a few year's hiatus. :bc: |
you and rosie ?
  ;) :) |
u kidding?
|
not rosie palm (see wanker).
Rosie Ruiz The queen of all pirates :) |
Oh. I thought you meant Rosie O'Donnel.
Who the heck is Rosie Ruiz? |
She's the one who "won" Boston quite a few years back, mostly she "ran" the race on the T :laughs:
My marathon days are over and done with. I ran Ocean State twice and broke 3 hours. The last year it was about 35 degrees with the wind whipping on Ocean Drive. That was twenty years and about 60 pounds ago, and one of the worst days of my life--the only day that I can think of that was worse from a pain standpoint was the day my gall bladder erupted :D |
Hate to say it, but I think of marathons more as a weight loss regimen rather than a race, as I just want to finish it, having raced a few, p.b. was under 3 hours. Many years and 50 lbs. ago. Off the bat I can run 13 miles now no prob, and I can start doing my four 20+ mile training runs next month once I start ramping up the mileage. Provided I don't get sick...again.
Boston is definitely the most fun one could have running 26.2 miles although those hills in Newton are :yak:. Plus, figure it being in April it won't interfer with any fishing plans. ;) |

Funny. The last one I ran (96?) I was in the Chestnut Hill area of Newton. There were a bunch of BC students chowing on pizza (Uno's I think it was). I would have KILLED for a snickers bar, but thankfully one of the guys offered me a thick slice. I devoured it trotting up a hill. Must have been a funny sight.

Good luck no matter how you run that race Wee.
That is an awesome commitment. :) |
My PB was 2:56:34 on a certified course (Ocean State).
I think the most boring 'thon is LI---flat as a pancake. It's mostly run on the Wantagh Parkway. I entered it right after I ran Ocean State for the last time, thinking I could get under 2:50 and qualify for Boston. Obviously I was still delusional after crashing and burning the last 6 miles of Ocean State :laughs: Needless to say, I ate the entry fee and hung up my racing shoes. I ran a bit during law school but never raced again. I used to scoff at "the Wall" until those last 6 miles. I hit 20 miles at 1:56--do the math on the last 6---10 minute miles :wall: Some photog shot a picture of me somewhere on Ocean Drive, maybe the 22 mile mark. I ordered it and put it on my wall just in case I ever felt the urge to mount a comeback :rollem: |
Ah, racing a marathon in my mind is like expecting a 50 lber every trip out. It ain't gonna happen, I just wanna finish. :D
|
To finish cutting off your 50 lbs, FWW? Damn, this running talking got me into thinking I need to drop my weight down from 171 to 150 lbs for a muay thai middleweight bout. I want to fight in a middleweight bout, not a heavyweight bout where many 6 feet tall and heavy fighters could obliterate me...
|
If you're already lean running won't really help you drop. Funny thing I was watching a health show that compared people atkins dieting vs. marathoning. The marathoners lost weight more slowly than the atkins dieters. Guess the running created more muscle which is heavier than fat.

true
you still will change shape though and be in much better shape.
running builds up toxins in your body realtively fast where as walking long distance your body is able to keep pace. |

my finacee is thinking about running in it. she runs everyday and has finished two boston marathons thus far. i am taking her down to bermuda this may for my annual fishing trip and they have a half marathon there as part of bermuda day celebration.
|
Yeah, if you run every day (as few as 3 miles), it's not really a stretch to run a marathon. Key is everyday mileage...
|
Who cares about the marathon.....come April the herring will be running!
|
yeah yeah yeah but are the stripers around on Patriot's Day (mid-April)? That's early even for NY waters.
-WW |
At that time of the month I will be out scouting my spots...especially the ones in Rhody..:laugha: :hihi: !

Amen brother!

Hey - Patriot's Day is on a weekday. :bshake:
|
Yeah, I have noticed that, FWW. The only thing that can make us lose weight is a certain diet. I was thinking about doing atkins. I gave it an experiment. It felt different. But the con of this is a kindey damage and a bad breath.
|
I've had bad experiences with Atkins. It was the cause of a nasty kidney stone that put me flat on my back for a good week. The pain was so bad I thought I was gonna die. Also, for some reason, I think it weakens your immune system. :bc:
Anyone who is thinking of doing it should read the book first. Most people don't and that's where they get into trouble (you're only supposed to gorge on saturated fats for the first two weeks!). Anyhoo - you're pretty young to be even thinking about dieting. How the hell do you expect to work out without carbs? -WW |
You need some carbs, the good carbs. I uriniated most of time. After a few days, I never stay in the bathroom as long as I used to before if u catch my drift. Harvard Univ. just modified the diet prymaind. It's a great system and very articulated
