What is the limit for NC striped bass per person?

bloocrab 01-20-2004 12:22 PM

I think the 3 guys on the left used Bow & Arrows, that increases the bag limit. :smash:

When certain species of fish cruise the same coastlines, the regulations should follow accordingly... with the fish, NOT ACCORDING to THE STATES!!!

If Stripers knew the laws, they'd stay up our way ALL year long.

fishweewee 01-20-2004 12:28 PM

3 fish per angler? It's only one more than the two fish per angler limits you'll see in some places. Remember, in some places charter boats get special exemptions.

Wondering if the skipper and the mate kept some fish as well and included them in the photo. It happens sometimes...

STEVE IN MASS 01-20-2004 12:43 PM

From MoJo's website, a link to NC size regs, I got this:

(A) Albemarle Sound Management Area: contact DMF for seasons, areas or other limits; Atlantic Ocean year-round: 2 per person per day at 28" TL minimum; Other coastal areas (excluding Inland Waters-regulations set by Wildlife Resource Commission) year-round: 3 per person per day at 18" TL minimum.

i don't care about limits
but people taking cows like that is just straight out bull.

nobody needs that many fish. :af:
i don't give a damn how much of a "sportsman" you are
especially when you paid someone else to find em for ya

Slipknot 01-20-2004 03:16 PM

We see this every winter when we aren't catching them and they are. It sucks that they limit out the boat and keep 2 for each mate and 2 for the captain also. This happens every winter. :( Atleast they don't use nets and cull the best ones like the comms were doing down there recently. They get away with giving their charters their fish and don't care what we say about it, they are determined to keep doing it just to be the rednecks that they are so they can just piss off us yankees. Reminds me of the japanese when they used to kill everything, maybe they will wake up. Stripers are on the way out again :(

But at least they got their arses kicked by Godzilla. :D

Let's see, 18 bass averaging let's say 30 pounds each that would be around 540 pounds of Bass. In thew old days that would be a hell of a good night x $1.50 that would be, let's see, $840.00! Did over 660 pounds myself one night way back on Monomoy, does that make me a badf person?

If the laws exist where this can be done that the perpetrators are not the fishermen, it's the idiots that allow it. Are the Bass in trouble Slip? Who really knows. It's all conjecture on our part. Last year sucked, this year might be killer. It's like global warming, what with we have been experiencing this past year you couldn't prove it by me!

Couple things I do know, the best fishing I ever had was when the limit was 36' for everybody and the sports crowd kills way more that the commercials do, just sit on the dock at Rock Harbor as the boats come in at night or along the canal when that annual spectacle known as the herring season is under way. They should stop all the taking of herring now before the runs are permanently ruined just as the Menhaden fishery is now.

You want a lot of big bass? Go to 36' and stop the taking of herring both legally and illegally and stop the Menhaden boats.
Anyone poaching a herring run who gets caught should be made an example of, impound their truck, gear and fine them heavily and make it a criminal offense not a civil one. Poachers suck and anyone who does it is a piece of #^&#^&#^&#^&! They are stealing from us all for the easy taking of Bass.:af:

I poach plugs. :bshake:

Nebe 01-20-2004 04:06 PM

Speaking of poachers.... there was a picture just like the one above on SOL and the name of the charter CO. was Poacher Charters.... what the frig!?!?

:smash:

Raven 01-20-2004 05:01 PM

in that picture

do you see anything that suggests ocean? By the way they're dressed i have a feeling thats lake fishing although many wouldnt believe that many fish that size came out of a lake. the dock style is the give-away.....not many walk out docks like that go into the ocean. Argue the point if you like but thats just my impression. I lived down there for a year and a half and when i finally confessed that i was actually born in boston and not california i was instantly kicked off the job. They're still fighting the civil war.

fishweewee 01-20-2004 05:03 PM

Raven,

I think those fish were caught in Albemarle Sound. That's just West of the Outer Banks barrier islands.

i'm probably wrong tho.:wall:  :bsod: :peessed: :gu:

They've got to tighten the rein on pirating. I know some guys who got nailed by the green jackets. They had way over their striper limit. The fine was dinky at best. One of the guys, an infamous pirate, should have lost his commercial liscense. He didn't. Fish money to pay fine money, more fish money to pay more fine money............................................. .......................................:smash:

Backbeach Jake 01-20-2004 06:55 PM

I hate to see pix like that. If you aren't gonna eat it, and I can't see those guys eating that much fish, why kill and keep it? Unless you're a commercial fisherman, that's a crime against nature if nothing else. It wasn't that long ago that the striper fishery was so screwed up only Bassmaster could land one with his fish-magnetic dannys:D

Slingah 01-20-2004 08:26 PM

F*&*%$ a$$h**s
"Look at all the fish we got...uh-uh"

I hate:af: photos like that

InshoreAngler 01-20-2004 08:33 PM

second that:af:
are they really gonna eat 18 cows??!

Slipknot 01-20-2004 08:34 PM

Those guys do eat them all believe it or not. They are meat fishing and either freeze it or share it. Think about it, they only have so many days for a chance to fish for them down there and with bad weather , even less days, so the charters keep all they can, not every trip is like that one. Last winter a pic of a 50 sparked off a bunch of yakking back and forth over on SOL and the captain got kicked off Tim's site. That picture must be from www.customsoundcharters.com and each winter he expects the crybabies from up north to invade his site and whine about all the dead stripers.

That doesn't make you a bad person Flaptail :)

In my opinion, I'd say the bass are on the verge of trouble because of alot of factors, but that's just me, I have no facts to back it up so untill I have to stop fishing for them , I will continue to enjoy fishing for them just like you will :D

What's a poacher? ;)

Here's the link... I dont see what all the fuss is... if you count the fish and count the guys, plus the guy taking the picture, they're not over the limit... Maybe whoever got so steamed is just jelous:rolleyes:

Mr. Sandman 01-20-2004 09:53 PM

I guess you never saw a single MA comm fisherman unload 40 bass...that pic is nothing.

UserRemoved1 01-21-2004 07:30 AM

Like Slip said this chit happens every winter.....It sucks but that's what they do down there :(

damn! 36' !!!!! that would be one hell of a battle! :laughs:

l.i.fish.in.vt 01-21-2004 08:25 AM

i see nothing wrong with that picture,if the fish will be eaten and not tossed backin. it may look like a lot of meat, but after fileting how much meat do you actually get?if you are good at fileting maybe a third of the weight.

fishweewee 01-21-2004 08:26 AM

I know pics like these get some of you guys steamed, but come on, don't they motivate you just a little bit to go fishing right now? Hate to say it, but when I see these pics I WANNA TAKE A ROADTRIP! :laughs: Would have headed down already but Capt. Rick is already booked for January.

tlapinski 01-21-2004 08:34 AM

these pics make me angry in the same way that the pics of the kid that caught the 60#er back in the spring did. this is what they payed there hard earned cash for for, though.

i do give credit to the capatain for being able to put his clients over some quality bass. envious? sure! i would love to have another night in the surf with bass that size commiting suicide on my plug. if you put your time in, your day will come too. as long as the bass didn't get wasted and everything is within the confines of the law, there is nothing that can be done but hope the bass that didn't get caught are a little bit smarter for the experience. :)

179 01-21-2004 08:39 AM

Well lets hope the fish were kept for the dinner table and not just for a photo op! I myself can not understand the need to keep so many, but that's just my opinion, then again I only kept 2-fish over 30-lbs all season myself.

Slingah 01-21-2004 08:56 AM

I guess if the limit is 2 and all the fish are accounted for then good for them. I only keep a few fish a year, but that is me.
I am steamed that they are crushing and I'm NOT!!!:laughs:
You bet WeeWee I've been jonsin for a roadtrip and this absolutely motivates me to go. Anybody heard about surf action???

Flaptail 01-21-2004 09:09 AM

Oh yeah, I forgot my favorite target when it comes to Bass being exploited. Seals! Who was it that posted that seals eat something like 40 pounds of fish a day to survive, or some outrageous poundage? I hate seals! I say a seal pox would be a good thing for our inshore outer cape bass fishery! Seals! Yuck! Seals:rocketem:

Flap, some of the larger seals (like you see at Nauset) can eat up to 80 lbs. of fish in a day. :af:
