The Bad News

Well I just picked up from the weather that they figure we have 10-20 days of MUCH BELOW average temperatures.

This is bullshiite !

jugstah 01-21-2004 09:39 AM

let it freeze now, and give us much beautiful weather during striper season!!!!

Isn't it true that if we have colder winters, it will take olnger for the ocean to heat up, thus surfcasters should have a better june/juy/august season??

RIROCKHOUND 01-21-2004 10:30 AM

I had a better than average june... could be possible... but my guess is that by then The temp has about averaged out...
Currently, we are about 4 degrees below average....
33.1 at newport average is 36-37 degrees.....

I watch this like a hawk waiting for 50 :smash: http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/dsdt/cwtg/natl.html

What are the law of averages regarding "when" the stripers hit the Cape Cod region? Does it go by what the "temps" are in the water, or does it depend on a variety of factors? such as the herring run? :)

Thanks for making me feel better gentlemen :)

New talk on the dock here. Steamship Authority is requesting a mid-channel bouy (NW/SE) at Tuckernuck Shoals with full automate weather system.

That is real handy for us out here. :D Probably take a few years though :(

60 days to spring

Sweet. Maybe the ocean will still be frozen solid by then. We can live-line herrin' with tip ups through holes in the ice for the striped ones.

jugstah 01-21-2004 02:44 PM

This would really rock!

Maybe more than just a buoy between Falmouth and Martha's Vineyards and Nantucket too!

What, like a bridge

Talk of that would totally freak out the anti windmill group :laughs:

Ice fishing for stripers ? :(

Oh man, I might have to leave this place if that ever happens.

And they think they have tough weather down on the OBX fishing for bass. They should try it out here. Right boyz ?

This winter is turning out so bad that come May we (MV, NANT & the Outer Cape) are gonna be some kinda chilly/foggy ;)

one interesting tidbit i read was that stripers travel about 16 miles in a given day. If that were true you could take reports of when stripers reached a certain southern area and then measure how many miles from point A to point B and divide by 16 miles per day. I think that would be affected by water currents too though.
