You are a brave soul:D

cheferson 01-21-2004 09:20 PM

A good part of the area was frozen over, including all along the bridge. Goodluck tomorrow if ya go, ass loads of traffic the whole way there, i left at 3 to go there and stayed till 7.

Clammer 01-21-2004 10:02 PM

That was toooo easy//////////////////////:D

THe fish gotta be there // its deep in there /// I didn,t realize it until we fished it & had a d/f =usually just throw in the tin boat=====&thats good enough==============

Nebe 01-21-2004 11:04 PM

That holdover article in OTW emphasized that most often the fish are on the bottom and it was crucial to fish the bottom with small plastics...

So.. if you were tossing poppers, the bass were lookin up and laughing at you.

I'm going so crazy I might have to go up there and try to catch some shopping carts or something.....I'd settle for a rusty bike....

Christian 01-21-2004 11:21 PM

holdovers on bottom holding within about a foot of structure. pink over white bucktails. 1/2oz, not too thick. my fave.

RI Popper 01-22-2004 12:57 AM

I've caught hundreds of schoolies there last year. Very small jig heads and small zoom fluke. Best bite is at night right along the shadow lines. very slow presentation along the bottom. If you can still get on the docks that' good too closest to the bridge

good luck too cold for schoolie in my backs opinion.

Saltheart 01-22-2004 09:38 AM

Most people fish small bucktails there with rubber tails but its also fairly productive for guys who drown bait on the bottom.

cheferson 01-22-2004 10:07 AM

I tried four inch albino zoom flukes on 1/2 oz head, 4 inch pearl wildeye shads, and also 1/2 ox laughing jim with and w/o a curlytail. All were worked around the bottom, i tried every area i could reach by foot, i was there for close to 2 hours.

Saltheart 01-22-2004 11:55 AM

Unfortunately you can sometimes try all afternoon and get nothing from shore while watching the guys in boats in the middle pull one in every cast!.

RI Popper 01-22-2004 12:19 PM

hi cheferson, sorry but the 4" may be too big. The very smalles possible is best there and extremely slow I mean let it rest on the bottom, bounce it a little every second or two or a very very slow retreive. and try cutting an inch off the head ad tuck it tight to the jig.

Goose 01-22-2004 12:37 PM

Yup RIP. What I found that works well for holdover is the 4" white gillrakers, fresh water bait. I bite off about an inch off the head and use a 1/4oz jig. Gillrakers have a much more slender body profile then a grub. They can be hard to find. I get mine from 'Northern Bass Supply' in NH next day.
