surprise on the end of my line tonight
Not once, but twice this evening, I was surprised to find a 22-24" cod at the end of my line, from the shore no less? I was casting into a nice structure, Castle Rock, but was dumbstruck with these two after a couple 27" stripers.
Been so long since I've caught a cod (30 years I bet) I didn't know what I had at first. Don't remember them being so red in color. Anybody else getting cod inshore? from the beach? |
Nice catch!!! It's not too unusual to catch Cod from shore although this is pretty late in the year but since the inshore cod waters have been cut down commercially, there are alot more in the water right now. That's pretty cool. I'm told people were catching cod from the shore in Scituate and Hull as recently as the beginning of may too.

They are catching cod all around , Nut Island pier in Quincy, Castle Island in Southie, the Sugarbowl in Southie. I haven't managed a fish from the surf yet this year. Fished only twice and both times with live herring. I did get two nice trout monday morning though.
