Clammah & Goose
Just wanted to mention the piece in yesterday's ProJo on clam and oyster aquaculture. Good read in case you missed it. I'd be inetersted to hear your views.
|
I work on the largest farm in the state, Moonstone is the name. We grow oysters down in Point Judith Pond. I've been on the farm for about five years. The farm has been selling since the early 90s. Before the farm I dragged on boats out of Point Jude. I read the paper, and happend to make one of the photos:)
This spring you should come on down. I'II give you the full tour. Clammer is a commercial digger. Most diggers aren't in love with farming, unless they've got a lease for themselves. I could go on about the reasons why, but will leave it for another day. As for hardshell clam farms in this state there aren't any that are doing anything on any major scale. The big clam farms are down south, with Florida having the real big ones. The Florida growers flood the market with clams which drives the price down--this I think would be clammers biggest grudge. |
If I was to reply it would be in the Gutter :smash: :smash:

Cleared out--thanks to the rain and the wind, and our really battered boat hull--you should see the prop on our ice breaker.
What about you, harbor still hemmed in soild? |
Goose,
I'll take you up on your offer when the weather improves. I know how clammer feels about it, after a couple of night at hooters together. But I though he would still find it interesting. I recall as a kid there were lots of clam farms in Great south bay on Long Island. I guess they've closed up and moved south? |
The guys busted open the channel yesterday=========but all the rest of the cove is socked=======I know about props=======only the rookies didn,t have s/s
