LORAN to GPS program

Has anyone ever tried to use that comm program (andren?)
http://www.andren.com/

is it any good? I have some Loran #'s I would like to convert to GPS from Colemans and Soares book Fishable Wrecks and Rockpiles and load into my machine.

I found a couple free programs on the web but from what I know about this conversion unless you are there with your loran (which I do not have anymore) you can not get an accurate conversion to lat lon. Anyway I would be interested if anyone has used this program or know what you use.

thanks

Sandy,
I've tried a few of them an none worked worth a damn. I still have two lorans on the boat. Send me the numbers and if I get to them I'll send you the gps numbers. :)

I just tried a place I know the GPS and have the LORAN numbers and it is pretty far off..I'd be looking around all day to find the wreck with those crappy numbers.

I did come across a diving site that seems to have decent GPS numbers on some of the ones I was looking for.
wreckhunter.net

If I get desparate I'll send you a few numbers... Are they still broadcasting the LORAN signals? I thought they were going to pull the plug ?

Sandy,
Loran is still alive and well. Supposed to last until 2006, but there is a movement afoot to keep it around indefinately. I still have a ton of numers to convert.

Numbers

Turn on your Loran and GPS

Drive to the TD'S on the Loran and mark the waypoint on your GPS...

You could also lay a chart on your kitchen table when its 15 deg out and practice your chart skills.

But I have not tryed to go to them yet so I don't no how acurate they are going to be??

Good luck

What he said. Plot the Loran position on a chart, then get the Lat and Long and plug that into your GPS.

 What are charts?? I just look at them and strach my head
