Hello
I joined this site some time ago, but never really posted. Figured I'd get started now. I'm wondering what your opinions are of using a water based paint over an oil based primer. I know that it can be done, but I am wondering if it should be done. My brother, who restores old homes, has always said that you must be consistent throughout the process - if you start with oils, use them the whole way through. Any thoughts?

he's right.....but the way things are today, building in the basement of your home an having a wife with a good sniffer,,doing oil the way may not fly, so you do what ya can do.besides if ya made it you can fix it when she peels.

Thanks. Interesting thing is I just talked with another friend who painted houses for about 20 years. He felt he had the best luck with an oil based primer and a latex paint over top.
