I just don't know. I think the skirts are too long. Maybe should use shorter bucktail or Hackle as Salty suggested or....just a hook as it was intended.

Can't see the colors too good. oh well.
BTW still useing Krylon. I speckled the paint as needed by slightly pushing the spray nozzle and pulling it backward. Kinda "spits" the paint. I hover the plug under the Paint "rain".
I need a new shirt now! :laughs:

surfster...a sug...the nose looks to be large enough to drill a 1/4-3/8's hole up inside.reverse the tail an front loop. pull the skirt up inside the nose an trade out the single hook for a smaller treble..doing this will shortin the skirt up alot.

I like em like em alot, I,ve been thinking bout makin a couple reverse ones like that I,ll spin a couple up today and post the pic's I cant paint anything cuz no heat in cave later LINK:cool:

Hmmm? I thought about something similar with another design I am working on but....I think I'll have at these instead! I could suck a 2/0 up there far enough to shorten things 1" overall.
Let me disassemble and try it.

Thanks,

Heres a look at what you were talking about I think. This was/is another idea I had fer squid. Turned it with 2 "knobs" then had at it with the belt sander.

Nice Squid ....nice CS improvement.. gotta try that one sometime. pissa paint ...,,:)

Surfster 02-16-2004 11:24 AM

Well.....

Test swam both types yesterday with a friend with mixed results.
The larger bullet nosed ones didn't sink quite the way I expected. They wanted to float with the tip just touching the surface. If tried to work like a pencil popper they would not walk the dog like a true pencil. I think to do that I would need more weight at the rear. The skirt kinda deadend the action I could have gotten without it. To tell the truth I didn't want a pencil anyway but rather like Eben said "was looking for deep water action" If Retreived slow and jerked easy it looks good and thats the way these 2 will be fished. My friend suggested a metal lip thats just enough to get a dig but not a wobble/swim. Kind of an extention of the nose but sloped down and narrow.
Now, the darter squid. It did dart about 3ft side to side! But also could use a little weight I think in the front too. It did dart but it wanted to surface too often. You had to keep the rod tip down which is not something that can always be accomplished on the beach. From a jetty or atop a good rock yes but I feel you should never have to think too hard to make a plug work. You should be able to hand it to a buddy without having to explain for 15min how to make it work. A little weight should keep it down. I'm considering a tail weight in the front.
These are my first creations "so far" that require thinking to acheive a desired goal. I'm diggin' it.
Just thought someone might like to hear some results.

Bliz 02-16-2004 02:26 PM

Keep at it Hank!... Nice work!
