LOOKS LIKE YOU HAVE BEEN WAITING AWHILE FOR AN ANSER, SO I WILL GIVE YOU ONE.
I PERSONLY LIKE THE ROD YOU HAVE SPOKE ABOUT.
"UGLY STICK ROD A MEDIUM ACTION 6 1/2 TO 7 FOOT, WHEN I GET HOME I WILL LOOK AT ANY SPACIFIC NUMBERS ON THE ROD. I WOULD RECOMEND A QUALITY GRAPHITE REEL, ANY THING IN METAL WILL WARE YOU OUT IN THE LONG RUN IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO ALOT OF CASTING. USE PINK 15lb TEST ANDE LINE, WITH A BLACK BARREL SWIVEL AND A 30lb SHOCKER THIS COMBO WILL HANDLE FISH TO FIFTY POUNDS NO PROBLEM.

hooked, what kind of price range are you in? I am told a good starter combo is a Diawa Sealine X rod and an ABU 6500 reel. There are many available 6500 models, but the C4 is a good value with high spped gears and bearing levelwind. I started with a 8 1/2 foot Ugly-Stick and I found it hard to load properly if I needed to hurl it out there but otherwise a good starting rod.

i would spend up to around $250 or anywhere around there.

I would recommend getting the best rod you can and using an ABU 6500C3 , 6500C4 , or 6500TSCT on it. These are all between $70 and $85 each. To get the most for your money , its hard to beat the Allstar rods. I think they are as good as a Loomis or Lami but much less money. Anyway , even if you have to stretch a little , I'd go for a custom rod made on one of the following AllStar blanks.

The AS1088 at 9 feet , the AS1145-2 for 91/2 two piecer , or the AS1208 for a 10 footer. For any of these rods custom made and an ABU 6500C3 reel , you should beable to get equiped for about $275-$300. These are exceptionally good values in custom made rods and in my opinion worth a little stretching of the budget vs a factory rod.

You might call Mike T at M+D's bait and tackle in Wareham (508-291-0820) and ask him if any of these blanks is available as a factory conventional and if not , what a rod and reel combo, using one of the blanks I mentioned on a custom rod , would cost.

WE NEED MORE SPACIFICS FROM YOU. SHORE OR BOAT. I LOOKED AT MY RODS. THE UGLY STICKS I OWN HAVE NO NUMBERS. BUT I DO KNOW THEM WELL. MEDIUM ACTION, 7 FOOT LONG.
ONE HAS A 650 PENN SPINNING "SS' WHICH I LOVE (I AM A BIG PENN FAN) AFTER I PURCHASED IT REALIZED IT WAS WAY TOO HEAVY FOR CASTING ON A REGULAR BASICS.
SO I PURCHASED A "QUATUM 650" WHICH I LIKE VERY MUCH. I AM A LITE TACKLE GUY WHEN IT COMES TO SPINNING.
IT LOOKS TO ME LIKE THE FOLKS ARE OK WITH THE UGLY STICK AND A 650 SOMTHING OR OTHER. (I LIKE GRAPHITE REELS BECAUSE THEY ARE WAY LITE) THE ROD I HAVE RECOMENDED IS EXELANT FROM A BOAT, WILL THROW 2 1/2 oz ANY THING, I HAVE USED IT IN THE CANAL FOR CASTING ONLY.
IF YOU ARE GOING TO SAND SPIKE YOUR ROD' OR FISH FROM ROCK'S YOU NEED SOMTHING LARGER. I WILL LET MY FREINDS DIRECT YOU IN THIS DIRECTION.
I HAVE DONE IT BUT AM OUT OF TOUCH WITH SHORE EQUIPMANT THEASE DAY'S. I STILL KNOW HOW TOO, WHERE TOO, WHEN TOO, BUT, ALTO MY SHORE EQUIPMENT IS OLD, IT STILL CAN FUNTION WITH THE BEST EQUIPMENT.
(HARNEL 10 1/2 PENN SURFMASTER-HARNEL 9 1/2 MINCHELL 302) RODS MADE BY/
Angelo De Stefano Washington St. Boston, Ma. CIRCA1960's.
(Time for my bashing) "I LIKE SNOOPY RODS".
THEY ARE INDESPENCIABLE IN THE UNDER THE RIGHT CONDITION.
P.S. LARGER ROD, PINK ANDE LINE, 20lb TEST,
BLACK 30lb BARREL SWIVEL, 30lb SHOCKER.

for me personally I would love to have all the expensive fancy goodies...but it can be costly and when I think of how I would feel if I broke a very expensive rod....it seems harder to bring myself to buy one! HA!HA! (maybe one day when I become a pro! HA!HA!)

my husband and I both own ugly stiks , which are very forgiving to our abusive habits, but they can be tiresome. I have just bought a sealine X (and though I havent had much time to use it yet) itseemed to fair pretty well, and I have had many tell me they really like those rods. Thats my input!! :)
