how to rig slugos

I recently purchased a few packs of 6 inch slugos. I was wondering how to rig them. i know that they can be fished weightless, but how do you rig them with a weight and what type of retieve should be used. Thanks in advance, Derek.

RE:how to rig slugos

Derek,
I use the Gotcha jig heads, they are a weight with a heavy duty hook built right in. Just thread the sluggo on the jig up to the weight and stick the hook thru the rubber so the hook is exposed through the top of the sluggo and then use a little crazy glue to hold the sluggo into place where it meets the weight. In the spring I do well on schoolies with the 3/8 & 1/2 oz jigs, but I have used sluggos with a jig up to 1oz other times in more current or deeper water. There are other jigs out there, just make sure it is heavy duty. As for a retreive, that depends. Most of the time I just bounce it along the bottom like a bucktail jigging it on the retreive, other times i reel it just off the bottom, but it depends where the fish are feeding. Sluggos with jigs are very effective at times.
Good luck,
MZ
