What do you guys like to use for shockers (length, test, ect.) when heaving those heavier (3+ oz.) plugs??

Forty pound shocker about twelve or so feet long. Main line I tie a bimini twist ( I learned it last year when the bruins got licked by the Devils), from the bimini I tie either a double-uni or an albright. I find the albright shoots through the guides better than the uni, while some feel it's the other way around.
If I'm fishing with a levelwind reel then I keep the knot just outside of the levelwind. If I'm using a conventional conventional then I like about five wraps around the spool.

Ron Arra has a rule of thumb for shockers ... use 10 lbs of test for every ounce of plug you throw. For example, use 30 lb. test for a 3 oz plug, 40 lb test if you're throwing a 4 oz plug.

My favorite is Berkley Trilene or Berkely Big Game Supreme.

Make sure to wind three turns of the shocker around the spool.

There is an interesting low-profile knot I learned from Ron - it's essentially a uni. With the leader material, simply tie an overhand knot over the running line, and secure with a 4-5 turn uni.

I don't use a shocker just a 3foot 40 or 50 pound leader. But I also use 65# PP.
