Wind Wx and temp readings
Came across this by accident, been watching the buoy for some time that is south of MV, but this is in Vineyard Sound....and it is live data...figured some of you guys might like the link too.
http://capewind.whgrp.com/ Interesting to note that it's 2 degrees warmer NORTH of MV.... here fishy fishy :D |
that is awesome salty ! that means they have it online now.
:) thanks ! |
I wish that the guys would fix the BUZM3 buoy it's been down since last fall now, the wave meter been down for over a year now...not even scheduled for repair.

Don't want to ruffle anyones feathers but if you check the Lat and Long of the Wind Co. Tower you will find it is located on Horseshoe Shoal which is between Hyannis and Nantucket and that area is known to most local mariners as Nantucket Sound, not Vineyard Sound.
The line of disembarkation of Vineyard Sound and Nantucket Sound is a line from West Chop to Nobska. Would not want you newbie wannabees to get yourselfs lost out there! |
I'm well aware of WHERE the tower is.
|
salties a newbie. saltys a newbie nah nah nah nah nah :p
thats right NANTUCKET SOUND and don't you forget it :smash: :smash: :) |
GEE Even I read the page before I posted it and even it says Nantucket sound. SO FREEKIN WHAT. If it benefits others then WHO cares that I said Vineyard sound.
cappy boy saw a chance to shoot a barb and he did that's all BW...... |

Some people just never miss a chance to throw barbs. You guys got fish out on that deserted island yet? :D |
cod, flounder and scallop.
we have about a month to go before it is even worth heading out for our striped friends. working hard now so come late april I can start being joe fisherman. have been combing the beaches and have acquired almost 20 tinnies. a good haul, I may just start selling used lures to the summer folk out on da beach. Probably get $20 out of them each. might pay for the conventional set-up I am thinking about for this year :) |
Maybe we'll get some time to hookup this year. Would like to do that.
I think we see fishies in 2 weeks if it goes back to being a tad warmer. |
What is more disconcerting to me is that this mega effort they plan to build all these looks to provide only 10% of the demand for the cape and islands. (every time I look at this site in a 10knot -15knot wind it is 10-20% of just the cape and islands)
Sure in a blow you will produce more, but what about all sumer when the wind is low and the entire cape is cranking AC? But the cost per kilowatt hour has got to be insane when you include what the maintence costs will be on those things. Imagine the cost of repairing them in Jan and Feb. IMO atomic is the way to go. We need to do more research on better atomic methods of producing energy. More importantly, that is a good spot to fish for big bluefish. Hey wait a minute, when they all decay and collapse into the sea, it could make a nice artificial reef...Hmmmmm, let me re-think this. |
Jim there was an article in the CC Times today on this....
http://www.capecodonline.com/cctimes/studywind16.htm Now is this written by the opposition or was this an unbiased assessment? |
hear ya Sandman. I picked up where they say that they only have a useful life of 20-30 years and then have to be taken down. IMO that is the justification for not building them in the first place.
I say they build them right along the south coast of Nantucket. The world weary will freak out but in a few years we will have a nice set of reefs all along the coast. The only boat traffic out there is charter guys running to the shoals from Madaket, etc. Do you think the gazzillionaires would be upset ? Maybe if they installed them in the winter when no one was around :) i am just joking around, i promise |
