Here is the latest fish to come off the carving bench. Flandreau has done it again !

thanks |
Very nice work you do that all by hand?
|
awsome!!!!!
|
schweet! thats a Keeper :D: An old friend of my family who lived out on Cutty Hunk used to carve stripers and made weather vanes out of them.. I think theres still a bunch left on the island..
|
Not all. Machines are a big help but the detailing is most certainly by hand.
This is not MY creation. Jack who works with me here is a carver of extraordinary ability. I posted a bluefish that he did this Fall. I did the hand sanding on that one and applied the finish. It was a natural model and he likes my natural and hand sanded finishes. He will paint this one in oils and epoxy. It will be something. The photo was taken about two hours from priming which is happening now. He had a few details to finish off before hand. Can anyone pick up where he needs to finish ? Jack and I thank you all for the nice compliments. :) |
Awesome is the word!

Here's the Albino edition
as Jack says when asked how long it took him to carve a piece: 57 years 263 days 14 hours and................ :) |
Beautiful....the work of a real craftsman...a master......how much could I buy one of these bad boys...er I mean gals....for?
|
WOW! Nice to see craftmanship of this caliber
|
Price....
well we live out here in Nantuckey and the Cost of living bills are getting kinda yuckie. From start to finish can be a week before the finishing starts. Then some more hours and days of that. It's a commision so we'll see what the final tag is when it is done. Thanks again for the kind words. Jack is truly a master and I am like a little child around he and his work. Bigfish, that bluefish is back in the archives somewhere. Forget what I called the thread. I'll find it. Been posting a few photos lately and I am assuming that the moderators are starting to get restless :( |
Very Very pretty fishie. So your not gonna through wire it and put a big bucktail on the back side are you??? :laughs:
|
Beautiful carving, are the fins carved directly from same block of wood or attached later after body is carved?
|
Fins are attached afterwards
'cept the tail ;) it is a 2/3 model which will be hung on the wall. Just enough roll around the other side to accomodate the fins where they pair. I am impressed with the belly but more importantly with the realism of the gut. The girl looks like she is eating very well. He has done thigs in his life that would make you shake your head in disbelief. Mantles done in a fresco of marine life, whales, crustaceans. I have to dig up the photo of the Lobster he did a couple of years ago on commision. About 5' long out of Honduran Mahogany. The amount of individual pieces and the intricities of the carving where just awesome. By the weekend we should see a finished product |
Thats beautiful!
