How do you hold the plug while you paint it?
 

I have seen pictures of some of you standing them up on nails and painting them but could you all give me some ideas on your preference of positioning the plug while painting? Also, do you brush on or spray on your clear coat???:confused:

There is probably a better way but..
 

I have a few lengths of coat hanger. I take about a 12" section and bend a hook on one end to hang dry later. I take the wire and bend a kink in it so the plug won't spin then I slide it through the drilled plug snugly. I hold the hook end in my hand while I spray.
Just the way it work for me.
When it comes to the clear coat the plug is already assembled. I hold it by the lip and brush it on. I take more coat hanger bent into a 2" size "S" and hang it from the tail hoop then flip it to the nose hoop to dry.

18 gau picture hanging wire .. don't like the plastic coated stuff though cheap ..

I use my through-wire. The ones NJTackle sells. My blank is all drilled , I put the wire through and kink the very end. When painting is done, I put in the grommets and swivels and bend the rear loop. Then I clear.

Bamboo BBQ skwere, fits perfect in my 3/16" bit thru-hole, like 99 cents for 100. I usually hold it in my hand, but sometimes I'll use 2 skwerers and stick them into a cardboard box to keep it stationary. BTW, I have no idea how to spell skwere????

I've just about used up all the wire coathangers in the house. Cut them in the middle and bend the cut parts out 90 degrees. Wrap a bit of masking tape around the cut part so a plug will slide on and stay. This way I can paint similar two plugs at a time and just hang the unit from a pipe to dry. Overspray doesn't seem to be much of a problem.

Not perfect, but at least I don't have any junk to store when I'm not painting...
