Okuma Eclipz
 

Friend just bought one.
SEEMS and FEELS nice.Would love to see how it performs after a full season workout.Anybody own an Okuma reel?
Still lookin for a match for that 8ft UEHA Tica surf rod I bought.
This reel might beat out the Shimano Stradic or Spheros I was considering.
Any cooments?

I have no personal experience with Okuma reels, but everything I've herd about them is bad. Yesterday, on another site, someone said that they had a good experience with one and a bunch of other guys jumped in to say that it son't last. Take it for What its worth.

I had an Okuma Epixor eb30 for my fresh water setup and it was great so I decided to purchase the Epixor EB65 for a saltwater setup. I was very dissappointed. It just wasn't durable. I only used it for about 3 months and it looks like I had it for 3 years. Also I'm experiencing a problem w/ the Baitrunner feature where it doesn't always catch when you engage the reel....That's not good.

IMHO Great for freshwater But I wouldn't use one for salt/surf.

Went and replaced it with a Nautil...we'll see how that works out

I have the IS-50... It seems to be an ok reel for 60-75 bucks.... I'm going to put it to full use soon on some Cod to see how it really stands up.. Already have it loaded with PP 50#... I know someone that had gotten one back in Oct.. it's different colors but the guts are the same.. Talking to him made me buy mine... he tangled with blues and bass for 2 weeks straight and no-hicups.. also never had a bail close either.. He used to have a stradic 6000 which has no problems.. but now it's his backup reel..He said the drag on the Okuma is much smoother.. also he had no problems with the body flex when fighting a big fish.. unlike the earlier Okuma's and other inexpensive reels..

the eclipz is the new SW reel by Okuma... I heard that the bail problem still exists with that model reel..

It sucks when you're on a budget.The Tica rod I bought is a great deal for the money and I've heard nothing but good things about them.
I don't want to skimp on the reel,but money IS tight.The Eclipz is almost $40 less than the Spheros,but at least with the Shimano you know you're getting a good reel.

BTW.Anybody ever heard of a Mitchell Riptide spinning reel?The owner of the house I'm working in was tossing away a bunch of stuff(hubby died couple of years ago) and she gave me a brand new in the box reel.Its a model 80 rated for 300yds/14lb test.Looked on the website and the only Riptide reels were conventional.

They are a sub $25 dollar reel...I used to have the 50 a couple of years ago... made a nice reel for squid and mack's....never use higher poundage then what the reel calls for...

Maybe I'll stick it on my 7ft Uglystik and see how many monster blues it takes to fry it!It was free.
