Soundfishing.Com
It appears that soundfishing.com has gone down for good. They had relevant info on Western LI Sound fishing and good people visiting their site. I'm not sure what put the nail in the coffin but one thing was for certain, a handfull of extremely rude people ruined the atmosphere for everyone else.
Roccus e-mailed me a few weeks back about a troubling trend that was happening over there and it was one or two nasty individuals talking such bad trash that would make an old sailor blush. That negative atmosphere turned many away and lack of any moderating by the soundfishing staff (they just were not able to stay online all of the time) seemed to bring an end to that site. That brings several things to mind: 1st - If anyone that formerly frequented that site would like a LI Sound board open here, I'd be happy to do that. And, yes, there would be moderation available so that really negative talk would not occur here. 2nd - I am always happy with the kind of class and civility that all of you show for this site and each other. Thank you for that as it always impresses the daylights out of me what a great group of people we have here.... Again, Thanks... John Redmond |
John you would do that for us people stuck on a pond . Eastern end I hope those foul internet users are in thew western end of the sound . Not you Patrick !
Your a hell of a guy John ! thanks Ill let my soundfishing friends know !! ;) did you notice the hat I wore on the canal/chatham leg . Its a shame people have to go to those extremes just to see how many people they can get mad . spineless jellyfish with out lives . that is exactly what probably killed that site . Ill see if I can find out . this site has alot of good people with whom Ive fished with and those I have met and someday will fish with . |
John,
Don't know exactly how to get the word out to the ex-Soundfishing.com guys but I know a bunch of them were hunting for a new site. I see someone tried to start a message board but it appears to have fizzled...nobody posting in over a week. I get an e-mail now and then from one of the charter skippers who is looking for a relacement site...how about I pass your e-mail address along and maybe the word will spread among the charter guys? They were pretty disgusted with what went on over there before the board finally imploded and I think they'd flock to a reliable new spot. Let me know. |
It's the same story everywhere. Free boards where anyone can post have to be tightly moderated, or they turn into flame-fests. Like the old WMI board when anyone bothered reading it. And reel-time.com (remember the legendary bassturd?) before they went to a registration format. Boards that require pre-registration have about a tenth of the problems. As long as a moderator keeps the lid on things, and doesn't try to control content that conflicts with the bottom line---otherwise, what you have is Stripersurf.com
|
John you do a great job, and your right this site has nice people, All you can do is try/ and that what your doing Hey ENJOY later

John R:
This site not only has some of the most informative and helpful people in the fishing community it is extremely well administered. Many members have conducted themselves admirably in the way they respond to threads and answer questions. They have, in doing so already showed their respect for this site and the people who visit. I sincerely hope each and every member continues to respect the resources and time it takes to keep a site like this up and running. It, to say the least would be an absolute shame to see a great site like this face the misfortune of soundfishing.com. We have very few informative sites like this in New England. My deepest respect and admiration is extended to you for your administration and continuing work on this site. We at Weekapaug Bait & Tackle are extremely proud to be a sponsor on this wonderful site. Keep up the marvelous work, Don M |
;D - Thanks guys, appreciate the good word ;D ... And it I enjoy doing this (need to hit PowerBall for several mil and spend more time, hehehe)...
Roccus... As I have a few potential charter/guides coming on as sponsors it wouldn't be fair to them to have a wide open board (if someone asks for charter info, there is no problem with someone recommending a charter or anyone [except for the x-Marts] even if they are not a sponsor). I'm more offering space to the regular readers that might need a home :P |
Since this topic is on the internet. I have mentioned buying stuff on the internet and I have gotten some anonymous emails saying what a sell out I am. Seems since I want to buy stuff from Mike, I've sold out.
My response? Mike has a real shop and he gives me information, just like real life shops nearby so I don't see the difference. |
Speaking of websites on a downfall, anyone checking out Noreast.com lately? We are being menaced by a guy named "Flounder". He's already had it out with Mike P. He isn't a very nice guy. I'm getting the feeling that once people are sick of the fights on there, they will be looking for a new site regardless of what happens to the actual site. You might get a lot more new members John!
|
Patrick, what are you doing up at 2 in the morning?
who cares about noreast? not me |
You are a striper fishermen and you're asking why I'm up at 2? Burn this post, it's sacrilege to everything I believe in. ;) Nah, I'm trying to get this night job. I gotta adjust my hours.
I don't really care about Noreast. That's the place where I get to give advice rather than take it. Just saying once people get sick of that place, the only places focusing solely on the Northeast is this site. If you build it, they will come. Some sites have sections for the northeast but it's not the same. |
Who the heck is Flounder--wasn't he the fat kid in Animal House? Recipent of one of my favorite movie lines, "You ****** up, you trusted us"? If I had it out with him, it was an eminently forgettable fight.
noreast's big problem---well, one of them, anyway---is too many flounders, not enough John Skinner. There's a bigger problem with the site but I won't go there ;) |

By the way, Gene B. has booked that lure modification story (remember that one? Helped bring peace & harmony to the SO board...<g>) for August so it should be out in the next issue... From your posts it sounds like you're bringing the Big Ditch to its knees these days. Stop in if you ever make another run up to Beaver and pass by the old hacienda. Tight lines, Jerry Vovcsko moderator www.capecodfishingnet.com |
Oh you'll get over it Jerry :) I guess I could check out some of your monthly articles, I just find that board a little strange.
Looking forward to reading that article. Yep, I'll stop in sometime my bro lives in E.B. How is the islands fishing these days? Maybe I can get down there once before I sell my boat and go on vacation. |

You ought be a bit more specific, and a lot more accurate in what you say. First of all "We" aren't being menaced by Flounder...it's you that he's upset with and has told you so very directly. He pointed out that what you had to say about "..female stripers sitting on a nest" was absurd and suggested that you post things that you had personal knowledge about rather than simply regurgitate what you heard or read or got from someone else and then pretended was original with you. As to people being sick of the fights on there (Noreast) I couldn't agree with you more, Patrick, However, the part you neglected to mention is that all too frequently, it's you that has started the fight or jumped into the middle of one that was already under way bringing a metaphorical gallon of gasoline to add to the fire, usually with a posting approximately as rational as some of the ones you made here previously...I refer you to the Great Bluefin adventure, the Dog Run, Gumboots in the sand, Patrick-goes-to-law-school, Patrick builds a yacht, and on and on and on... It seems that when you finally annoy people to the point that someone jumps down your throat, you then run off to another forum and whine there about your poor treatment. The problem, Patrick, is that you are burning your bridges, running out of forums that will allow you to post and you do not seem to learn from your mistakes, pointing to others instead and blaming them for mistreating you. There will likely come a time when you will have acquired some original ideas and you may well have something to offer. Unfortunately, by the time that happens, if you continue down the Patrick-the-Expert path you seemed determined to travel, chances are no one will be willing to take you seriously or listen to what you have to say. I doubt you will be able to hear what I'm saying to you Patrick, just as you seem oblivious to what others have tried to tell you, but I remain optimistic... |
Jerry - It's all been said before... I stopped holding my breath a long time ago...

MODERATOR: please feel free to delete this clearly retalliatory message, but consider fairness and ask yourself WHO threw the first stone. You should delete BOTH messages IMHO. |
Farquar (WTH) & Flounder, welcome to Striped-Bass...
No need for deleting/editing of posts as there was nothing wrong with a little self defense and you certainly have every right to say what you said... We know well how Patrick's need for honey propells him to stick his hand in the beehive from time to time. Patrick - you don't have a hunting license to go balistic here, OK? Something to keep in mind... I don't know what's happening over at noreast but here, we don't have too many pi$$ing contests and flame wars, right Patrick? And Roccus - anytime you want to add a weekly column here ;D |
Yeah, no need to burn up this board. You have any more future problems with me, deal with me over on Noreast or my mailbox. Preferably the latter. Just not here.
This is a tight knit group. |
Thanks for the welcome,
I have been here for a while. flounder is a solid fisherman - and his posts are based in fact ;) Thought that was quite a nice reply by him. As for your "Red headed step-child" :) well I am sure one day he'll appreciate fellow fishermen. He seems to have adjusted well to this board, of course you guys had to "break him in", thanks :) Just trying to do the same. Can we get a permanent disclaimer on his post. "Advice given is based on prior fishermen's posts, the author has no original knowledge." kinda reminds me of that comercial "not a Dr. but play one on TV" he should just start out "I'm not a fisherman, but I play one on the net..." Sorry guys, I have seen him giving advice on reels and rods he has never even used or seen to people just getting started, getting into skirmishes with real owners... kinda stinks for the novices. I guess we all have to just invite him fishing! That seemed to calm him down on here quite a bit :) very nice tactic. Gotta great site, I hope flounder comes back over, he has some great knowledge and he is quite diplomatic. Gotta go, the stripers are nesting here... and we all know what that means - Bluefins are in the surf. :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D |
Farquar,
I hope BOTH you and Flounder continue dropping in here. You both bring a lot of savvy to the board, judging from your posts. I'm considering creating a new verb along the lines of the political usage of Bork, ie, as in "He's been Borked"...what say you all to "he's been Patrick'ed" in reference to anyone who's been subjected to Patrick's "special wisdom" over one thing or another? |
Flounder and Farquar---thanks for confirming that I'm not getting a little "tetched" in my dotage. I couldn't remember any fights with either of you. Sometimes people mistake honest disagreement for swapping punches. I'm also not the only "Mike P" on the internet in the NY area, so maybe it was someone else that Patrick saw. MikeP, Mike P and Mike_P will all be different people to a computer. I haven't posted on noreast in at least 6 weeks, unless I forgot one or two. I wish Skinner would take a more active role on the surf forum, but that's his call. I've never met him, just swapped some e-mails from time to time, but a guy whose opinion I trust says he's a good fisherman, and even more important, a hell of a nice guy.
|
Yes, it was a mistake. Mike got into it with some other guy.
|
Thanks again Roccus...
I think everyone did a search Mike P. Don't waste your time... :) As for me I gotta boat to build, How do you guys feel about not installing a wheel? I mean seems to me it is pretty simple Throttle forward, you go forward; throttle back you, go back :-D |
lmao at farquar . wink wink nudge nudge !
tell flounder to just ignore those that are full of it and enjoy the board for what john has made it and welcome to both of you . |
I keep inviting him to get out fishing but something always comes up or I think his folks are afraid that he may never return. After all, so many people just have it in for him. We've offered protection for him but I guess that's not enough, need a saltwater WPP or something...
|
To Flounder and farquar....
I have to agree with Patrick when he wrote "we are a tight knit group"!!!!! (about the only thing I have agreed with him on BTW) and that is why we tolerate what we do....John seems (in my mind anyway) todo just fine letting people post what they want without much hassle....only has he got rid of posts when they have been down right trashy. When it comes to things that are "uncalled for" they seem to stay, and needless to say if someone is being bashed, usually the rest of us take a stand and most of the time the offender simply bows down to the group (no much of a choice really :) heehee ) I have never seen a new member not welcomed here nor have I seen someone "from another board" be dissed because some else suggested they should be.......I think we are all fair in our judgements of each other, it is just too bad some people take advantage of this!! We are all here for the love of fishing... and have a lot of fun too. There is a wide range of personalities, expirience, and styles here....that is what makes it fun, but also what causes conflicts too. Whether we decide to learn from others and be open minded to this diversity is what makes all the difference in the end!!!!! |

(I do agree with Roccus's idea though :-D ) Have a great night all and thanks for the warm welcome. |
