Spring Fishing Checklist?

Some things I'm thinking about before the season gets underway...feel free to add I'm sure I'm forgetting quite a few things...

Map plan of attack based on logs and likely free time

Clean reels
Replace drag washers
Fresh line where needed

Check guides in rods with cotton balls for cracks and wear - repair/replace as needed

Replenish line, leader and terminal tackle supplies

Change hooks on plugs where required

Replace korker studs

Check waders for leaks - repair/replace as necessary

Fresh C02 cartridges for inflatable safety vests (!)

New flashlight bulbs and batteries

Double check required beach buggy equipment kit

4WD Beach Buggy Permits (!)

Put rod rack back on buggy

Drag coolers out of storage

Start thinking about organizing tackle for the truck

for those who fish abus
i would throw in some abu level wind palls. they always seem to go on me.

goosefish 04-07-2004 08:49 PM

I second that Christian, also those tiny C-clips--I always seem to lose one or two.

I'm still waiting for my bail springs for my V-S.
Buckos give a discount for reels brought in durring the off season.. but even with that, I'm sure they're getting swamped

New CO2 cartridge? How often do these need to be replaced if unused?

I still need to find a new pair of waders.

Using braid for the first time this year. What do you guys use for clipping it? Nail clippers don't seem to work too good.

Make up some leaders.

New light.

Need more rubbah.

Spence, I have no clue, but I don't want to take any chances. I figure, what's a few bucks on a fresh cartridge once a year when it comes to your life?

Don't want to tempt Mr. Murphy.

spence 04-08-2004 07:08 AM

I'll look in the manual. As long as the cartridge hasn't discharged and the mechanisim isn't frozen, I can't imagine it wouldn't work.

Fiskars makes a really sweet pair of kiddy scissors with blunt tips.... you can usually find them in the Isle where you find crayons, craft paints, etc... I always keep one pair inside mywaiders and one in myplugbag....

A chainsaw! ;)

Seriously, that stuff can be a bear to cut. Good suggestion on the kiddie scissors Eben!

For the list: Re-tie Tube & Worm rigs with 30# mono. That way, if the knott breaks, I have only myself to blame!
