I'm staying out of Chatham this year :err: |
if yer talkin' about all the out of staters, I hear you, but if yer talkin' about people who live in Ma. but not on the Cape, sorry, i'm just a postal worker, don't make the big $$ to live on the better side of the Canal :smash:  johnny "tRB"
|
ain't lookin for an argument Johhny, BUT......
there are people who live here makin a hell of a lot less than a postal worker does, and makin the sacrifice (YES, it is one) to just LIVE here, and it ain't the visitors we mind, it's the chitty attitudes that more seem to be bringin with 'em, ain't go nuthin against anybody vacationing with there family here, just don't ferget to pack the manners. (I KNOW U bring 'em!) |
No kidding Capesams.....They were like flies on Sh*t today...They came in really heavy last nite in Wellfleet....Today was the first day of beach sticker sales up at the Race....I had a friend who tried today but came back cuz the traffic was *get this* backed up clear to RT 6!!!....That is like 2.5 miles!!!...All CT, NY, NJ plates....The seashore was turning people away by mid morning saying it would take 6-7 hours to process just the ones that got their before 8 am....It is a serious problem they are having and I believe they should have an open period for cape residents to get their stickers first so we dont have to put up with all that crap.
I was out scoping out some sidewall jobs this morning and could barely get on Rt 6 at 9 am....Just buggy after buggy and when I did get in traffic the buggy behind me sped up and rode my ass all the way to the coffee shop until I pulled over....Man these people are in such a damned hurry! |
I know purple paint balls stain gel coat...next time just slow up a bit, then don't take your foot off the gas, but step on the brake enough to put the brake lights on....they back off fast.
|
close the borders....... I feel for youse guys that live down there. I won't drive down there unless it is in the middle of the night when all the tourists are sleepin.

Here is the thing. I live and work on the Lower Cape and drive on the beach quite reguarly during the whole season. There are 3000 season passes available. Of these 3000 over half are bought by folks who come out for 1 week or less of vacation a year!...They have a weekly sticker available and I believe if you don't use your season pass a certain amount then you shouldn't be able to get one the following year. Get the weekly sticker instead. I have no beef with out of staters, some of my best friends are from upstate NY and are the finest people you would ever meet. But something has to give. The present system is NOT working and it will keep the die hard guys who love to fish throughout the season off the beach in place for someone with a brand new SUV with a grill and a boom box. I have seen it first hand over the last 5 years. Take my statement with a grain of salt. If you had hordes of people invading your backyard enjoying what you gave up to move here for then you might see my side of the story.... In fact, the Seashore is holding meetings on how to deal with the problem and I do believe a new, possibly radically different system will be in place next season. What that is I have no idea and it may not benefit cape residents so you can smile on that one... See you on the beach :p |
Tin Can Charlie, we have absolutely no arguement there, I fully agree with those statements, I have been saying the same thing about the abuse of the seasonal pass by weekers for quite awhile. They should definately address that situation. Perhaps cahrge less for the weekly passes (much less) and alot more for the season pass. I would not mind paying more because I use mine a ton. Alot of people just get them, drive on a couple times and thats it. I had a couple friends who got season passes last year and between the two of them they drove on a collective two times....and there is two season passes going to waste. Needless to say I did not inform them the stickers were going on sale because I believe that is a huge waste.

Bigfish,
you are turning into a real douche bag. lighten up. you're gonna give yourself an ulcer....... |
Larry, there is another way to look at it...........if these people who use it only once or twice a year (season permits) , so be it. Less people on beach at any given time. And lets not forget it is the Cape Cod NATIONAL Seashore. This doesn't belong to MA residents any more than it belongs to out of staters. Since it is first come first served there isn't much that can be done about it.
|
Newell Guy if you read my posts more carefully, you will see that I do not believe it belongs only to Mass residents.
Beachwalker........................never mind, not worth the trouble!:hs: |
It's a NATIONAL SEASHORE which is FUNDED by YOUR FEDERAL TAX DOLLARS not a TOWN BEACH for RESIDENTS ONLY. What I live in R.I. now so I cant fish the RACE. I LIVED in MASS for 34 YEARS BEFORE R.I...........I do BUISNESS in MASS and SPEND alot of money at FISHING SEASON there, Which helps the BUISNESSES there......................I will FISH WHERE I WANT WHEN I WANT with no one taking MY sticker or letting the AIR out of MY tires.............. ITS a BIG BEACH ......ENJOY IT while you can. Hey NEXT year when GAS is $4.00 a gallon and permits are $200.00 no one will worry about it................GOOD FISHING

I look at this sticker thing like this: It's like opening day of baseball, if it's that important to you then you must make an effort to be there,at the boxoffice, early . Last season I spent nearly 60 days ( and /or nights) on that beach. I've stood in line today for 8 1/2 hours to spend 100 bucks so I can do it again this year. I saw Race Point road cordoned off yesterday. I was there at 6AM on Easter Sunday and was nearly too late. We're all crazy! May God have mercy on us all.

Fishing soon friends and I offer my invitation to join me sometime to whoever would like to accept. I do enjoy fishing with new people when ever I get the chance, after all, that is what it is all about.:)

CS, Karl, BM, TinCan, et al. I feel your pain, I grew up in one of the most touristy places in the NE; Newport, RI and still live in Narragansett, which is Native American for "Town with the ridiculous beach traffic on a sunny summer day"... traffic, higher prices on everything, all out of state plates and boats....but we did it right, 40 years ago, figured out how to make money off em... :D and still at it today!!!
BTW I was in chatham early Fri AM working, but we were on our way home by lunchtime, and Karl, I always try to bring my manners with me :D |
The beaches which are part of the NSS were at one time all town beaches. The Feds made promises to the towns which they naturally broke after they towns allowed the NSS to be formed.
I would venture to say that the NSS generates a lot more money than it spends. It just funnels the money to DC to be wasted as the pols see fit. The smart towns (Orleans and Chatham) continue to manage their own beaches and do a hell of a lot better job with only a fraction of the NSS staff. Of course they don't close any of their roads to let toads cross in safety ... but hell you can't have everything! Interestingly enough they haven't sold any more permits than they did last year in the same number of days ... its just more of a panic now. |
Hi Mike

hi bruce

:wavey: Mike
:wavey: Bruce :wavey: Dave Mike, I am thankfull that the old town fathers in Chatham and Orleans told NSS to screw, they had great foresight! I know of one current Eastham selectmen that wishes that his town did the same years ago...... |
