Hi I'm New Here and This Is my First Post
 

Hi to everybody. I'm new to this website but my husband posts here a lot.

I have browsed thru your website and it seems pretty nice - I even see that there are a few women here too which is nice and they fish.

I'm trying to get my husband to teach me to fish for stripers this year - not like I have never fished before but that was in Michigan and Wisconsin for muskies with my dad when I was younger and striped bass seem to like the same things.

I know that a lot of the old lures that worked for muskies guys out here used for stripers like the Creek Chubs, which were originally made in Garret, Indiana not too far from my hometown(I'm a Hoosier and an IU grad).

Anyway, I wanted to say hi to introduce myself - but you probably know by my screen name who the guy I am married to is.

And he'd better make good on his promise to show me about stripers. I already know HOW to fish, just not for bass yet.

Well if my wife wanted to learn how to fish for bass I would start by making reservations at the Cuttyhunk Bass Club / Bed and Breakfast for a week or three.

You two can fish at night and walk around holding hands picking flowers during the day.:happy:

Say....uhhh...Mike, I seem to have lost Mrs. T's personal email addy. I'll bet she'd like a nice trip over to Cuttyhunk at a quaint little fishing club all decorated up nice. :smash: Yeah, that's the ticket...a nice romantic getaway. I'll run it by Mrs. Crafty if you run it by Mrs. T.

Anyway, before I got sidetracked, thanks to all you guys and gals for making my bride feel welcome. Maybe she'll hear from the other ladies on the site to encourage her to learn how to fish.

Alright, alright, she already knows about muskies - bass shouldn't be a quantum leap. Years ago we were on the Block visiting friends and the Mrs. was using an old Harnell with a Crack 300 a girlfriend's dad had - and she could snap cast a plug pretty good for a first timer. Of course, she never told me this muskie stuff back then.

Hmmm...wait a minute, am I getting hustled here? :confused:

I also married a Hoosier girl:D and currently reside in Indianapolis.

Ironically, she caught her first Striper a few years ago in Rhode Island.

Hell, Bernzy, the Mrs. used to work for AJ. She was also the first woman ever allowed in the pit area on Race Day when she covered the 500 for UPI. It's a pretty dangerous place for anybody to be working, female or otherwise.

She's got some great black and whites of Andretti, AJ, Al Unser, etc. and an incredible one of Hurtabees in front of an empty grandstand just sitting on his car before the race just looking off in the distance. It's one of my favorites of the 500 that she shot. I think it mighta been during Carburation Day, if I remember right.

Don't worry - if I ain't, :smash: she'll give ya the correct story behind it.

So go figure - what's the odds of talking the 500 and Hoosier stuff on a striped bass site?

I dunno, maybe it goes back to Garrett or something don't ya think? Beats me.

Hey, I'll give ya the nickel version of what her avatar is since she's probably not gonna be posting tonite. We're both tired and ready for an early dinner. It's been a very long manic Monday here in fish picture paradise :rolleyes: It was a pretty busy day that started way too early as it was.

Yup, it's just like when people used to tell me when we were shooting a lot (I dunno - is 30-40K exposures in 4 months a lot?) "Just take a picture". My response was always the same :smash: - well, I wish anyway, but I really couldn't. It's never as easy as it looks, I suppose.

It's like making thousands of plugs and having each one come out exactly the same - BY HAND. Believe me it ain't fun and ya don't get rich but you can take pride in it, whether you're Portuguese or Polish. Ahhhh, horse****...I'm goin' to the GOP after this post for a cold beer.

Anyway, the woman in the rowboat is Chisie Farrington and the illustrator is Lynn Bogue Hunt, the wildlife artist - you can Google either one. Chisie Farrington was 5' nothing and weighed 102 lbs., had polio as a kid and was partially paralized on her right side - and still held many of the IGFA records for years with her catches of GBT's - the scene pictured in the avatar was the landing of a GBT in the '30's that weighed 720 lbs. Not bad for a girl with a bamboo rod, huh? Her husband Kip was one of the founders of the IGFA way back when and he was as proud of her as anything he had ever done himself, if not more so.

Let that be an inspiration to ya, ladies.

And yeah, I've always said a woman could probably outfish a man IF they used their own skills in the game rather than just a contest of brute strength. Ya gotta be smart to fish smart.

There ya go - I said it. Okay, let's see if we can get a flame war going before the other big girls show - which oughta be anytime real soon. ;) God knows I'm ready.
