Here are afew jigs I tied up a while ago. There are some spots up here on the Nortn Shore that I think they might work when the herring are running. These guys are about 9 " long.

NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE. I still cant figure out how you got so many layers on there. Should work very well.You may not get more than 50 yds on a cast though, but that should be plenty. These might be the first neutrally boyant 1 oz jigs.:D

Flatwing jigs
 
They're based on large flatwing flies that I tie (See Saltwater Flyfishing Board). The tail is created by tying long saddle hackles in horizontally one on top of the other. There are certain situations where I've never felt that I could get down deep enough with fly fishing gear (plus the distance on occasion). So now, we'll see if these work. The big flatwings have produced some very nice fish for me over the years....

This one's all bucktail with peacock herl topping. About 8" long.
Also have a 14" eel here somewhere, if I could only find it...
