Rod drying turners

i had a perfectly good rod turner that i made a few years back. well, as i was prepping it to epoxy a rod this weekend, the motor crapped out on me. now i have two rods to finish, and no dryer to use. what do you guys use? factory made? home jobs? the motor i was using had a clutch in it which allowed me to stop the rod to work on the guides without damaging the motor. are there any pre made turners with a clutch motor?

A lot of high volume shops just spin the rod by hand while applying the finish then put it on a motorized dryer after all the finish is applied. they feel its very amatuer to apply the finish while the rod is spinning on the drying motor.

Anyway , that's one approach to do withouit the clutch. I use flexcoat motors. I have a fast one and a slow one. A simple rotissierie motor with rubber band to grab the rod blank also works.

Guess I must be an amatuer :D

Do your self a favor get the American Tackle Dryer .It's a great dryer for the money and it comes with the roller stand & is far less than the Flex Coat

Ok, MikeCC - I saw those @ CCT before and now I looked EVERYWHERE and did a search for that.......... no where to be found?!

How much for the doggy in the window? ;) I saw it at your shop last week sitting amongst the green metal bins, but forgot to ask.

When are those crack torches coming in? ;) LOL... cool tool.

The dryers sell for 54.00 the torches should be in about 10 days.

tlapinski 04-14-2004 11:16 AM

I am pretty sure that runs at 11rpm.
