4 leg dates
I'm thinking we should start to nail down dates for the 4 leg barbecues and tourneys.
I would start by suggesting Sat June 5 for the first RI leg and Saturday June 19 for the first MA leg. These are good weekends relative to tides and the 19th is the day before father's day so hopefully people get a lot of slack that weekend to attend that one. Let the discussions begin. BTW , I epxect to get something over thirty pounds on the MA leg so just start targeting bigger than that if you want any hope of winning this year!! :) |
Sounds like 2 good possibilities for dates Saltheart :btu:
Tell me this ain't Murphy's law. I only have 2 things written on the calendar for June and you nailed'em Both...that's my luck
6/5 is fine by me......the other date, well, my Hatteras trip wipes out the last three weekends in June for me anyway, so.........
sounds good to me
I like it.....
I was tentatively planning:
Rhody - Saturday June 19 - 2 days after the new moon, 10:30 high tide Mass Leg Choices: Saturday July 10th - just after 3/4 moon - 7:30 high tide Cape - Saturday July 17th - new moon - 7:30 high tide Cape - |
I like the June 19 date for Rhody leg. :D
July is way late for the Mass legs IMO except way out the Cape or north near plymouth/Hull , etc. The fishing in the southeat Mass area will slow r down end of June and especially after the comms start depleteing the area July 5.
Here's another vote for the June 19th Rhody leg!
Hopefully, I'll finally make it to one of these shin-digs!!! Note to self: --------------- Do NOT fish the Breechway with Nils the weekend before! Last time I dang near broke my arm, not to mention my arse! LOL! |

Moses is right. To be honest, I never understood this leg thing other then it is a weekend contest in different areas. We need a formal write up on what this is.
BP thanks for that synopsis of what is happening in 04. We should take more advantage of the calendar featurs of this site. This is good info. |

Saltheart won it last year so brush up on your fishing if you want to knock him off :) Basically, we all get together for these meetings at a designated place 4 times a year. The idea is to pair up and fish catch and release, have your fish witnessed by a member before release. You don't have to go to all 4 legs but the more you attend the better your chances. You need a 36" fish to qualify for entry. 2 legs in Mass. and 2 legs in RI, 1 each in spring and fall. Usually the RI one is before the Mass. in the spring and after the Mass. in the fall. We get together on a Sat. and burn some perfectly good meat and chow down then split up and fish. Last few times we met at M&D's in Wareham for the Mass. leg. It's fun to meet members and put a face with the name. And it is all shore fishing, no boats. |
I like both dates Saltheart suggested... I hope we can get them set soon as I need to get days off WAY in advance :D. July is too late for Mass IMHO..

If June 5 is the date for the RI leg, I will be meeting up with some of you later on. There will be a baby birthday party also going on that day as well. Once all the kids melt down and leave, I'll help clean up and find my way to the water.
Then I need to start finding some partners for the 4 legs to join or to ask to join me.
Not as much input as I expected. Too early to plan? I think its best to nail down at least the dates for the first two legs as early as possible.
For those who are new here , the 4 leg barbecues are big events with lots of good food and a chance to meet really nice people and some excellent fisherman. You really want to try to make at least one and if possible , all of them, They are lots of fun! |
**EDIT** June 19 sounds good to me
Duh? Its always on a weekend. The barbecue is on a Saturday. The whole point of this thread is to decide which weekend.
I would say that Mid July is a little late for a Mass Leg. Not knowing the tides, I agree with fishing the weekend of June 25 for the Mass Leg...
John I think we just need to set the dates, so people can plan ahead. Past history shows us that not everyone will be able to make it, but more than enough will show. I agree with the dates in June, but I could make anything if given enough notice. :)
i like the idea of July for the cape, except for the traffic. i have only fished it in june and september and that has been bad enough! any time in june except for the weekend of the MS tourney is good for the RI leg.
