Snaps
I made about ten casts yesterday with no results, but did discover that I have a problem. Since I very rarely fish plugs, I have let my inventory slip.
Does anyone know where I can get duolock snaps (without the barrel swivels)???? I am out and prefer them over the coastlock style as they tend to collect less mung. I have checked all our sponsors and local tackle shops to no avail. Much appreciated |
check saltwater edge. i think thats where i got mine.
|
The surfcaster has the good quality black duo lock snaps.
|
stop pollution .............. tie direct.........:af:
|
Mike T usually has them, or Ron at Sportsmans den
|
Try Terminaltackleco.com I think thats the address, lots of good stuff. I buy alot from them.
Interesting find about less mung on the Duolock snap. I'll keep that in mind. |
I just got a bunch of nice Berkley duo-locks but I can't add them yet because of the database problem from my sales processing company....

Duolock Snaps
Rosco/Sampo: the good stuff We have them in bulk as well but not on the website yet, feel free to give us a call if you're interested. |
Make sure you get the good Roscoe/Sampo ones with the HD wire, and not some cheap knock-offs.
Also---take a pair of pliers and bend the locking part down and in. Makes it harder to open for you, but also for a good fish ;) |
Redlite - They're not real hard to find - pretty much everybody would have them, you'd probably find 'em at a shop near you if ya ask.
In terms of which are best, what MikeP said - Rosco-Sampo HD - |
jeros tackle duolock snaps are good. i havent tried those sampos. mikep, from the scale 1-10, how do you rate sampo/roscoe to jeros?
|
With 1 being a safety pin and 10 being a 150# Coastlock, I'd rate the Jeros ones a 3 and the Rosco a 7.
|
Last season Tobias suggested I check out the Gemini Link clips. I love 'em. They are awesome for larger plugs.

I use those duo locks to But I must say those break away clips are the cats arse.
I swap plugs alot and find these to work very well with the duo lock they will wear from excessive use |

For most of my life I used the sampo duoloc's withOUT problems. I still have a bunch and use them with certain plugs that need a large working conntection. But over the last say 5 years I have tried to reduce the visability of my leaders. (for surfcasting) I use now the braid to spro swivels (tiny and strong) to 40# fluro carb. to 30-45# cross lock snaps. While tiny and much thinner, I have landed monsters on these snaps without failure. They can't be use with all plugs (most ) but I like the way the leader looks You don't see a big black snap honkin on the nose of the plug.
I feel that the combination of smaller swivel/snaps and fluro has yeilded me more fish no question. But the sampo duolock is a good HD snap. |
Sand Man I use those and have for Years.
Just got to make sure they are the good ones. seems to Be other co's making them with thin wire But I can wear those out after time |
True, I have come across the cheap ones now and again that do wear out.

when i was first getting into surfcasting, i used large snaps. i figured bigger was better. i then moved towards low profile spro snaps. i figured the smaller snap on the nose of a plug would put off less fish and look more realistic. then, one day, it dawned on me that i was all worried about a little snap on the plub but i was using 4/0 treble hooks and split rings. how "natural" is that to be hanging from a baitfish's belly? now i just make sure i have the strongest possible connection on the end of my line. i do like the look of those gemini clips. where can those be found online of locally?
|
the breakaway clips- mikecc at cape cod tackle has em. the gemini clips you can get at www.ronsutton.org/. hope this helps.
|
The concept of the breakaway clip is appealing but it has to connect to some other piece of hardware tied to the line. Isn't that just too many devices/weight at the tip of your plug??

Breakaway snap clips are the balllllllls! Been using them for years after introduction to them in N. Carolina surf.
I put a Spro swivel on the end of my braid and tie fluorocarbon to that, and then a snap clip on the end of the flouro... Never had one break, despite their name!! Change lures instantly. Watch out for cheap junk Chinese copies at places like W-M. |
I like the flourocarbon idea after the braid. What # flouro do you use??
|
Breakaway.. snaps .. rods .. cannon .. anything :claps:
|
we will have 2 different size Breakaway snaps and the cannons in by the weekend.
|
Mike are you open on the weekend yet?? I will be down there Sat morning to get my new trailer and i woukld like to stop by and get some of them Breakaway thing's
Thanks |
