100 fish morning with fish to 38" I hate life right now but I'll be there tonight ....boat fish w/ some on the flyrod. mabey today is the day it will really start to crack this weekend is gonna be SMOKIN!

I fished down there Fri and Sat night near the bridge on route six and got a few 28-30'ies.

Is there anywhere down there that is fishable by canoe? I'm not to familiar with the area.

Basic Patrick and others, why do you care what people say about spots? Isn't that what we are here for, to share info among ourselves to enhance our fishing experience? Or is it only OK to talk about spots when it is ones own best interest among the many S-B cliques? Do you guys also call up the tackle shops and yell at the owners for telling people these "spots", and they give EXACT locations, not just a blanket statement that covers a 588 acre river.

Can someone please tell me what this site is even here for if not for info sharing and helping out a fellow fisherman? Where do I find these unwritten rules about posting on S-B. I really should find them before I mess up too:)

I think you did the right thing JSullivan, there are a lot of people here on this site that need help, and more importantly hope.

it's a pretty large area. and hardly a secret!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there have been holdovers in cattail hole all winter and a ton af people fishin for em all year.

My point is that this site is open for ALL to view. So, mentioning specific spots (rivers, canal pole #'s, etc..) can cause some grief when fishing that area next. Meaning, all of a sudden a nice quiet, secluded spot is crowded very quickly. If you want to share a specific area with someone, just PM them.

S-journey, it's just that the internet can overrun a spot in a heartbeat. We are by no means the largest bass site around but we still get a five hunder to a thousand people watching a day, that goes up on fridays too :eek5: . With a LOT of people watching, including the many that lurk and don't actually log in and participate, its easy to over run a spot. I've SEEN it, even to the point of having someone - not a member - send me an e-mail calling me an effin liar cause the he read the fish were there the day before by a report I made and the fish were'nt there the next day.

If you want to talk specific spots and share it with a fellow member here, that's fine, just do it in a PM. Otherwise I recommend speaking very generically. It's one thing to talk methods, and a lot of great method talk happens here, and its another to talk how to read water and certain situations 'cause you can apply that all over the place, it can be disastrous to narrow things to a finer detail than the name of a town. It's sad, but that's what happens.

So where does the line need to be drawn over what's good info and what's bad? Tough call. But I can honestly say that talking detail on a spot has far more negatives than positives on the Internet. I'm just trying to be completely honest and upfront when I say that. Some mods and site owners encourage "spot talk" in detail but if come October and I say I slammed 30#ers at Balstons on Friday, there WILL be an extra 25-50 people there the next night. The other bad thing is in tough spots that can't support much traffic. If I were to openly share all my knowledge and put up a post that Spot X is giving up the fat girls, but in order to get to spot X yoou had to park on this resedential street, cut thru the white house with the flag poles yard, try not to step on the cat, walk west for 300 yards, cross along the hedges behind the gazebo and follow the path on the left for 200 yards to spot X, step on the most sw exposed rock and cast between the xxxxxx cropping and the xxxxx . You get the idea, the locals would have the cops on paid duty keeping anglers out, plus someone (me likely) would be in court for tresspassing :eek5: :doh: - just gotta find the right balance

I want to know where you fish, exactly, and I want to know now.
I'm tired of all this "secret" stuff (secret places, methods, times, tides, places to park, size of fish expected to catch ). Out with it, NOW.

You CAN'T have my spots. Some of my spots were given to me in confidence and some spots I fish can't handle the pressure the Internet would put on them. Besides, many wouldn't walk to them (and I'd better drop a few pounds if I plant to walk to 'em too :wall: )

mmmmmmmm...balstons... anyways I figure a river is a pretty blanket spot... I mean in general I said it because its a decent indicator of fish presence but whatever. there are fish everywhere
I had stops where we picked up tons of schoolies this weekend from sssshh dennis to the canal .
These are the days where people can get out and find a mess of schoolies to mabey get into their first fish ever LET EM!
Of course i guard spots but when were talkin about the bass river or the we we those are the places me AND most of the people i fish with lie and say we caught the fish that we are weighing in............ones that come from our good spots!

Lately, I've begun to think that everyone here needs a light dose of valium, but today, I think everyone needs a heavier dose. Must be that warm weather outside.

And I have to agree with JohnR and the rest, it really sucks when someone blurts out a specific fishing spot. I can tell you why.

A few years ago, some pompous ass from the Brockton Enterprise found a spot that me and my brother loved to fish in Onset. He reported it in the Enterprise, talking aobut how this spot gave up a few large.

Well, guess what? The following weekend, the entire shore was lined with drunken fools fishing.

This is probably why it HELPS you more to keep your spots as secret as you reasoanbly can, by using far generalities. If you have to burn a spot, do it via PM or email. Why ruin it for everyone else?

OK - I'll bite :rollem: - so it's OK for you to put up spots that aren't your honey hole (but could be someone else' spot) but when it comes time to talk about your honey hole you'll lie and go with a generic. Hmmmm. That's one reason why I personally frown on specific spot talk, most everyone wants the skinny on other people's spots.

Don't get me wrong, I'm REALLY no trying to be a hardass about this, just stating that spot talk in specifics RARELY EVER is a goo thing. Now when we get together and fish the S-B 4 Leg Tourneys, when we are face to face, you'll be suprised that we talk a lot more than what get's spoken online. But its spot talk between people, not the entire bassin' world...

if you want to freely post where, when, and how you caught fish, do it elsewhere. there are sites out there that openly encourage it. sorry if you do not like the reponse you get by posting spots here, but that is how it is. aside from trying to be a pain in the butt, why fight it? why do something you know will not be well received? you won't make many friends by pissing people off. nobdy here is trying to be a hard head about this, but if you keep things cool people will freely let you in on what is going on but they will do it because you have earned their respect and they feel you will value the knowledge. it is all part of the internet learning curve.

I just always think of those poor people that never have caught a fish, trying their heart out to get a keepah.

I didnt relize how many people actualy visit this site, 500 to 1000 a day, wow. Wouldn't want to see that many people sitting on one of my honey holes.

I see you live on the south shore...so do I...If I met you at an MSBA meeting or two, a S-b leg, etc I would do what most do, get a feel for who you are. I meet and fish with all kinds of people and am pretty free with info in person. I also am very active in a bunch of ways and have put more than my share fo novice fishers into fish. I also fish my tail off and do the footwork. I keep logs and fish the wrong tides just to make sure. I go exploring for new spots and get skunked a bunch in that persuit. More than once I have been fishing a spot daily for a week and then a few decent fish get caught. Somone puts it on the internet and the spot gets overwhelmed, and then no one, not the guys that had been working the spot nor the guys that read about it on the net get the fish.

As far as cliques, some call em cliques, & some call em stereotypes, I choose to call em people with common intersts.

I have no desire to fish with a beer drinking bait dunker, but that does not mean that they are bad people. I have no desire to fish with an elitist fly guy, though I am a decently accomlished fly fisher myself. My point is that we all choose who we fish with by variables that can not be judged on the puter.

All I am saying is that the boards should be only a part of anyones fishing experience. Too many try and make the internet their whole experience.

Come to some of the events I mentioned above and if we get a long I would gladly share specific info with you. I think you would be suprised at the fact that more communication between members happens off the site than on, at least in my experience.

I'll give you a good example of what can happen when a single spot gets too much play on just one internet website.

Down here on Long Island there's a place called Tobay Beach. It's owned by the Town of Oyster Bay. For as long as I've lived here, the Town offered a night fishing permit, to park after hours in the town lot, to anyone who wanted one. They never issued more than 400 or 500 permits a year. This is a rarity in these parts, as almost every other Town on the Island restricts night parking (if they allow it at all) to residents of the Town.

Last year, there was a good run of fish and one of the local "Fishing Legends"---who also has a public access cable TV show and a radio show---started blabbing on his website about Tobay Beach and how easy it was to get a night permit. All of a sudden, people from 3 states started running to the Town Hall to get their permits. Some weren't even fishermen. They just wanted to park there after hours for whatever reason. The place also got trashed---you had guys relieving themselves in the tunnel under the causeway, garbage and dead bait left all over the place. At the end of the season, the Town fathers took inventory and saw that they had issued over 2,000 night fishing permits and the place had become a zoo. So, take three guesses what the solution was. Yup---from here on out, that permit, and some good nighttime fishing access, is restricted to residents and taxpayers of the Town.

Talking about "places"--say Montauk, the Canal or one of the bigger Cape beaches---isn't all that bad. Narrowing it down to spots---say, False Bar, Pole # xxx or Gate x---really creates problems.

I relized a few things today thanks to you guys:

1st, Im very ignorant to the ways of the internet fisherman. I always thought this was a place to share info on spots and such, but now thanks to everyones great examples I understand why there is, and should be a fine line for sharing info on spots.

2nd, Don't piss of the natives, because they have sharp teeth:)
