Very informative site, thanks for the link:)

Head off shore until you see a big drop in water temp. The baitfish in the warmer water get trapped at the edge of the cold water. Sharks swim these thermal edges. Good place to start chuming.

nevermind.

Key to shark fishing is structure, just like bass, but only bigger structure in deeper water. The structure hold the bait and the sharks come looking for the bait. It ain't that much different from most other kinds of fishing.

50 weight tackle would be a start. Dont wrap any leaders around your hand and dont pull a live shark in the boat. Power chum establishing a slick for 1-2 miles and double back. You need to know where the wind/ current will take you. If you can set up and drift to some structure that will be the best. East of chatham about 15-18 miles it is easy to find sharks.

Nice picture!

Don't know I would want my hand that close to his mouth!

I cought last year by accident once, does that count?

Cod fishing, and then the line was slack,, then tight as hell!

Got it within 30' of the boat did not get a good look, then it spit the fish and ran. Not sure what kind of shark, but it was big!

Bastard wasted a nice Cod!

S-Journey..........????
You were going to stick a 25 foot White Shark with your harpoon?
If you did stick that fish, the only thing you would have seen get pulled up in Green Harbor is your 20 foot seacraft behind a green pickup with MA State plates. You on the other hand you would have been driving away in handcuffs. Um, last I checked White sharks were on the endagered spieces list.

I'm having trouble believing that someone with a tuna permit doesn't know that a white shark is an endangered species. Now that I think of it, I bet that white shark was a really a basking shark.

I know I know, it's late and I'm tired, but I think you just won the Darwin award for the day.

S-Journey 05-17-2004 09:46 PM

Lol, $%^$ that would have been ugly huh, and yes I was going to stick it. I really didn't know they were endangered, how long has that been? Was going to say it came at me or something, was defending myself:)

I Would've mounted that sucker to the side of my house

It was a white, without a doubt, I've seen them all...

And darwin award, thanks, I'm sure it won't be my last. Just think you just saved a shark and my dumb a$$.

shark bait

I like to live line baby seals in the harbor in front of the aquarium. This method works awsome for sharks. Sometimes the baby seals are hard to hook, and they cry alot. To shut them up I will either beat them with a club or ice them for a couple hours.:D

S-Journey,

Glad I could help, the laws for tuna and shark alike are constantly changing, so make sure you are up to date every year.
I was selling a tuna at the market a few years ago when we heard a guy calling in from offshore that said he had a white marlin on board that he wanted to sell. The owner of the market said is it dead yet, when the guy replied yes, he told him not to call anywhere else and he would give top dollar. When the guy showed up, the fish cops were waiting for him.

S-Journey 05-18-2004 08:24 AM

Seriously though, thanks a bunch Rip.

No question is a stupid question, unless you know the answer:)

Thanks Again

OK---I was hoping you guys wouldn't keep this long-distance urination contest going. Off to the Scuppers.

JohnR 05-18-2004 04:04 PM

Hmmm - hadn't seen this thread yet - don't shark fish so I didn't look.

Uhh, S-Journey, you want to lighten up a bit? Reduce the trash talking a little? Maybe, just maybe come across as more of an adult when you argue? Arguments are much more entertaining when they don't sound like a couple teen hacker wannabes jawing back and forth - besides, you're giving Sys-Admins a bad name talking like that...

Thanks,

John

S-Journey 05-18-2004 04:11 PM
