Surfcast setup

Hey guys/gals would like to try my hand at fishing the canal occasionally and was wondering what the best and easiest setup would consist of and what can I expect to pay? Dont want to spend a million bucks but dont want junk either, after all I am mainly a boat fishing guy not trying to convert or anything:D

Right in your own town, go see Mike Thomas at Cape Cod Tackle. Good guy, extremely reasonable prices, he'll take care of you.
