a question for you Penn guys
what kind of heavy duty grease do you use on your reels? thanks.
|
reel lube every week or so. nothing to exciting
|
Although I only remember using a small tub of it one time to pack a 704. Penn makes a "muscle" grease I think. Maybe it's called ble grease. I can't remember. It was definitely heavy duty.

reel lube
local tackle shops might have tons of these little tubes laying arround. $3.15 seems a bit much. |
thanks for the help.

OT - just got three penn combos
Sports Authority, braintree near borders and hilltop.
Penn5500SS on a onepiece 7ft $125 on sale $85 - they sell the reel alone for $89. - got two. Penn CV8000 on a two piece 10ft $99 - cant remember if it was on sale. It is at least worth that much to me as the guides are not falling off and the reel is a lot more solid than the $20 OceanStateJobLot models I been using :) Not to leave my Local Shop out of the action, I went to Belsan's to get them loaded with line. Went with 17lb mono on all three. Maybe when I am more knowledgable about things I will go with some braid or something on the 5500's This is a bad sign. I am buying gear to improve my poor fishing skills. <heh take a look at my surf bag for a good laugh> I expect they wil be used more from my little boat - or, If I can get one of you guys to take along a neophyte, on your boat :) Last night I went through some of the crap gear that has built up in my plug bag. Being a GreenFin, I really dont know of the pile which is junk and which makes sense to have with me. I'll have to bring my gear next month and have one of you "experts" give me a ration of crap as you help me sort it all out - will be done on the tailgate of my truck to limit the crowd and make retreat easier. Well, It is just past high tide. time to fish for a few hours. |
I pack mine with axle grease. I mean pack it so its oozing out of the case when I put it back together. I dunk it alot and only have to take it apart once a season. When I do take it apart, I spray it down with brake or carborator cleaner and repack. If you have a 7 series and hate the click, this will almost silence it.

Most guys on Long Island use the blue marine grease that you can buy at places like West Marine or Boaters World.
I use the waterproof grease sold by The Surfcaster for spinning reels, and Super Lube on conventionals. |
christened the captiva with a schoolie
:) :)
