canal bike

rigging up a canal bike and was wondering what the best way to rig up the PVC pipes to the basket. Was thinking of using cable ties but not sure if it would be strong enough. If anyone has any ideas, let me know. I'm thinking the next set of morning tides will be productive this weekend. thanks.

And passing bikers with rods sticking out. !!!!

might think about dual kickstands, bikes want to to tip over with 2 rods and gear bag.

I went to the bike store and bought a rear kick stand. It mounts to the rear triangle. It will support baskets loaded with a plug bag, jig bag, and 2 rods no problem.

Absolutely watch out for the low branches on the cape side. If your whipping along those branches could do some damage to the tip or even the last couple of eyes. Thats a good idea about the dual kick stand. I always have trouble keeping mine upright. The older I get the more I have thought about the little trailer for the cooler and bait and leaving the baskets for really light gear. I have not used mine in a couple of years but have been thinking about getting it out and buying a new rqack for the little ranger.

ng, that's what i was trying to say. you need 2 kickstands to support bike.

MAC 06-02-2004 08:26 PM

I only use 1, removed the front one. It is the same kick stand that cops use on their police bicycles.

And if you haven't bought a bike yet, do yourself a favor and buy a girls bike.

thanks ng, gotta try that !

Buckskin

Do not forget to notice that the old timers all choose "girls" framed bikes. This is to make it easier to swinf the hip booted legs over the frame. I am making a canal bike right now and that is definately the way to go.
