Pencil Poppers

SEAGAR is a great pencil popper, throws more water than regular pencil also.

Guppy Lures (if you can find them). They're the successor to the Hawg Hunter pencil poppers, which are the best I've ever used. They're a real production plug now, not a basement operation, with professional finishes, but they're Hawgs underneath the glitter.

Love Yo-Zuri Surface Cruisers. Cost more, alot more, but sometimes you can find them at a better price. Nothing cast better, but the downside is the paint which doesn't hold up too long.

Mike, etc. Pm me if interested in a direct connect to the guys from guppy...Besides their regular hours at the canal, they do sell direct to customers

BP--thanks. I'm still pretty fat on my supply of Hawgs, as I was Brad's semi-official field tester. But I would like to thank them for continuing the plugs after Brad's death.

I took the liberty of telling an interested party who PM'd me to shoot one to you or Larry for contact info.

While on the pencil topic, when you are holding the rod and shaking it, are you shaking it left to right or towards/away from you?

RIROCKHOUND 06-09-2004 08:48 AM

Purple noon... I try both, one walks the dog one bobs.... sometimes a combo...

HawgHunters were my favorite PP.... I was dismayed to hear the reason why they are no longer made, it sounded like he had been a nice guy...

Havent tried these guppy things... anyone got a clue where to buy/look at em?

I have a little over a dozen hawg hunter pencils and I love them casting bullets . gibbs made a good one but I havent bought any in some time . Guppies look good but havent tried one yet . I will as soon as I see them .

towards and away which makes the popper skitter and pop .

I love those Yozuri Surface Cruisers, but alot of $$.
I got a 1/2 doz Hawgs, and they're are nice designs too. I prefer the Sagamore Special. Is Guppy still using the same designations for the different models?
Cant go wrong with gibbs PPs, but I like to use 3 1/2 Gibbs Polaris poppers as Pencil Poppers. They throw crazy water :uhuh:

BasicPatrick 06-10-2004 08:44 AM

Krispy,

Picture brads Plugs and color schemes with a pro finish...aka guppy

I do not see a difference in the "Cnaal special" type of Pencil at all. The "Polaris" are more long necked and work awesome. there are some new designs and some of brads.

FYI...Guppy will be at MSBA Plug night 2

Wanted to piggy-back on this thread...

What kind of rod actions do you think are best for pencil poppers or spook-like lures? Seems to me a rubber band or a rod wih a some tip or mid flex would be better than a stiff telephone pole.
