Guys see the boat that sank off Chatam
Anyone see the boat that sank off of Chatam yesterday? Two men on one did not make it, they showed the boat on the news with just the front 3'-5' sticking out, looked like a pilothouse of some type like the Parkers.

I tried to find an article on this but couldn't. Anyone have a link?

I hope it's not true and they made it out okay. That can be a nasty area for the novice and as well as the experienced. I didn't see it mentioned at the news at noon.

I just read about it on another site. In short and from memory the following.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Cascade 2, a 28 footer began taking on water over the stern 1.5 miles out. The bilge was not working and the captain, Raymond Eldredge 78, and a crew member Paul Childs were able to get out a quick mayday. On arrival, the CG found Childs holding Eldredge who was in cardiac arrest. Eldredge passed away at the hospital afterwards. The boat was weighted down with sea bass traps which may of contributed to the probleem weight wise. The CG towed the boat in last night to Bass River Beach. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ It's been a short boating season so far and up here in Massachusetts and we have already had several accidents and fatalities. Sad news indeed. |
Dennisport
The boat actually went down off of Dennisport in about 20' of water.
From the Cape Cod Times: SOUTH YARMOUTH - A North Harwich man died yesterday after a boat he was fishing on sank in Nantucket Sound near Dennisport, officials said. Raymond Eldridge, 78, was lying unconscious in the grip of his shipmate when a Coast Guard rescue craft arrived at 1:43 p.m. Eldridge was pronounced dead at Cape Cod Hospital less than two hours later, hospital spokesman David Reilly said. The shipmate, Paul Childs, survived. The hospital listed the 48-year-old Barnstable resident in stable. -Hooper:( |
What are the sea bass traps? Are those the weirs that are set out? I have seen the weir boat so overloaded with the poles Im surprised it made it out of stage harbor. Seems like alot of accidents locally lately.
