Lami 1201L
I'm thinking of having this rod wrapped for me and was wondering if any of you guys own one? I've got the 1201m which I love for the heavier plugs, an allstar 1208 and 1266. The 1266 is a little too stiff for casting bomber sized plugs. I think the action of the 1201L would be just the thing for smaller 1 1/2---2 1/2 oz plugs????????????????????
I'd be putting a 6500 class reel on it. |
Yup---1-1/2 to 2-1/2 is perfect for that rod, but it will throw heavier if you need to.
It's a good rod to have when your limited to taking only one with ya. Used mine for everything from 7/8 oz Bombers, to eels (perfect), to 3-1/2 oz wood. |
Just what I wanted to hear Mike, thanks.

I almost got a 1201L but went with the 1205 as I wanted to go a tad heavier. I agree it should be perfect. Now I want one :D

John, i'll be sure to take a look at the rod this weekend at M&D's. i knew i needed another rod...... :smash:

I do have the exact rod your talking about with a little off the butt. It has been my go to rod for 75% of my beach conventional work. Only the rigged eels and 4oz plugs defeated it. I use it with a Calcutta400 & 50lb Ripcord. My favorite needlefish rod ever, plus its light enough to fish all night with.

John,
Both Fishaholic and myself have our eyes on that blank for building ourselves over the winter!! Its definitely a winner!!! |
Based on the rods you already have , you have the 2 to whatever very well covered . What you need is light end capability. I would suggest looking at the 108 1L not the 120 1L. the 120 1L is very versatile but you have all the upper end covered. For light stuff like bombers , the 108 1 L would be better.

I have one wrapped as a spinning rod and I love it. It is my go to eeling rod. I have thrown up to 5 oz on it but it likes 21/2 oz better. As everyone else has said, it is a very versatile rod.
