any Tuna?

I am do not have a boat. I am not looking for hand-out information. So please do not flame me.

I am merely curious - are the schoolie tuna in yet?

I just love the thought of tuna fishing, and I am considering a charter. and I am just trying to find out if they are in and what kind of season people are having.

I assume I am jumping the gun and they aren't here yet.

school bluefin

Usually the school tuna will start showing up in late July (at earliest), best in late August and September. They are seen in Cape Cod Bay, Stellwagon, and other areas.

Best idea is to do a charter.

I think its still a month early for any tina thoughts. Last year the bite was late- end of august. Water was very cold. 48 in chatham on july 25. 20 degrees shy of tuna weather. The best near shore action was in the first two weeks of November. I can't wait.

Which reminds me, any charter recommendations? Especially if they are a sponsor or at least a board member here;) :D

Atlantis Canyon had a warm bubble in it and I heard that tuna and dolphins were taken. The eddy isn't there anymore but it is a good sign for things to come.

Tuna

I do quite a bit of tuna fishing and my logs show that the earliest fish we've trolled up was on June 15 . That was a few years ago off Crab Ledge in Chatham. The whales and bait are there again this year, but so far no word on tuna. I would be happy to talk with you about tuna fishing and I also run charters from my 29 Blackfin Intensity. We are out of Scituate. Phone 781-544-3746.

Crab ledge is quite a haul from scitiuate, just to fish for schoolies. I have friends in plymouth who would run from the H bouy to p-town and find fish most days last year.Last year the bay was hot. The crab ledge area was decent, and the BB bouy never really got going except for three days of madness.

I haven't heard of anything inshore, but I herd an unverfied reprt that there were Bluefin and eyes caught this week in one of the canyons.

Agreed, Crab Ledge is a haul from Sciuate, but the fish there seem to be on average much bigger than the schoolies up here. Mixed in with small fish there is always an occasional 200-400lbs fish to pleasantly surprise you there. But as always with tuna, every year can be different.
