Fish attractant on Plugs ??

Do any of you "pluggers" use attractant--pogie oil or such on plugs?

Is it a no-no?
or
Does it help?

Not all the time, but sometimes i'll mix a lot of smelly jelly with some bacon fat to make a paste like goo and I'll stuff it into the belly gromet holes of my plugs....
Does it work??? who knows. but I catch either way.

I've used smelly jelly a couple of times didn't notice enough of a difference to make it worth the money.

Some places, people put Smelly Jelly or home made versions on the bow of their boat below the water line when trolling...

think about it

How about just spraying a plug occassionally while fishing?

Anyone do that?

I use cod liver oil early in the year when the first batch of schoolies show up. Works good for the rats, never used it past the third week of May though.

Some people load a plug with bunker oil. You take a swimmer , drilll a small hole and fill with the fish oil. Stick a toothpick in to seal it. At the water pull out the toothpick and the oil will ooze out while fishing. be careful of the fish oil. get it on you and you'll stink for a month!

Tried it once, didn't make much of a difference except my hands and plug bag stunk to high hell....I tend to fish them naked...:p

In freshwater bass fishing we used alot of fish formula, but I don't think the scent was as important as an attractant as it was to cover up the smells from you.

Gasoline, hand acids, grease. Things you might pick up before handling a lure. Especially fishing on a boat.

I always used it for plastic worms, jerkbaits, grubs, pig 'n jigs... slow moving baits. Crankbaits and spinnerbaits I felt were fast moving enough that the fish won't be inspecting the bait at all.

I've been thinkin' about picking up some formula. I use some of that antibacterial stuff that you don't need to rinse off alot to wipe the gas smell off, but that stuff has its own scent.
