Livelining scup on a PB for bass?
 

Is there a way to liveline scup on a pb for bass without tangling everyone's lines?

I was on a partyboat yesterday (fluke and scup) and there were a lot of bass around feeding on the scup. The boat had 3 keepers, few more shorts and dropped a few (that's how I know bass were there).

When we gutted one of the bass, sure enough, there were scup in the belly.

So is there a way to liveline a scup on a PB without tangling everyone?

yes i do believe using scup is not exactly legal for bait.

as long as there 9 inches in mass. you can do whatever you want with them.
read footnote six though, i think there's some closed days.

9 inches is way too big . 4 -5 is perfect. rubba not wood and my fingers don't stink:smash:

I'm in NY and the legal size is 11".

...even if you used a 3lb. sinker with no fishfinder :D.....the other lines would still find you......

9 inches is not too big. We live line scup up to 14 inches in LIS. Our minimum size to keep here is 10", though most are 12" plus.

Judging by the size of some of the half-digested scup I've found inside bass, 11" isn't anything close to being too big ;)

I've found legal sized fluke (16" at the time) inside bass, too.

I live line a lot of Scup in July and August in NY and Rhody waters, 10-1 inches is not to big, a 20+LB fish will take it down like candy. Use a three way with a heavy sinker and a leader that is about 5-6ft long....

5 cranks off the bottom. You want to feel them struggling to get to the bottom cover.

Did you fillet and eat the fluke? I think I would if it wasn't par-digested.

I've seen stripers take down foot long snapper blues w/o even skipping a beat.

9" ain't too big. :D

It's not live lining but you will find that the bass love it and you will too.............................................. fillet the scup you save the to eat and with what you have left cut it in two halfs and put on a hook. or if you don't want any to eat just chunkum.
