Jigs in the surf?

Would you use a bucktail from a sandy beach, or an area that is a wall along the shore? The wall along the shore has some depth to it and some pockets. If you would, and were limited to spinning tackle what size bucktail would you use? What weight line? How would you work it or retrieve it? I would probably be using my 10' Ugly stick. Also what color bucktail would you use and when would you us that color? Sorry for all of the questions.

OK, yes you can use bucktail jigs, color and weight depend on the conditions: black low light conditions, chartuese dirty water conditions, and white for everything else. On a sandy beach you can jig it along bottom or swim it, all depends on where the fish are feeding. In rocky or situations with structure it is very hard to jig without getting hung up, I would recommend swimming the jig. As for the size line again it depends on what size jigs you are throwing and where you are throwing them. In structure you should use a little heavier line for the abrasion factor. I throw 1 to 3oz jigs and I use 20lb trilene big game. The weight really depends on the depth and the current. If you a re fishing deep in a strong current you need to go heavier. One more tip is I like to use a trailer on my bucktails: either porkrind like Uncle josh or rubber. I hope this info helps. good luck

I agree with all that Ragfly says... In addition, run a teaser tied ahead ot the bucktail... If you have all sandy bottom, work it in the sand so it sort of puffs out sand on the bottom (visual in the minds eye) then work the water column higher if no strikes on the bottom... Ditto on the colors too -

Thanks Ragfly extremely helpful, thanks John I was going to try them at JFK/UMASS, and Squaw Rock on the bridge side.
