Used to get 25 cents a pound, back in the day. Don't think the price is improved much in 30 years.

They are pretty popular actually....wholesale here (last couple weeks) I have been offered 2 bucks per lb for blues here when they don't have enough in the shop and demand is high, same for fluke . But I will not sell them to the market....I let them go or give them to friends. They sell them retail for like 8-10 per lb and they don't have that many of them. The problem is they will not take more then they can sell...so if you bring 500# of bluefish, they may not buy them all. And they only buy from one or two guys in a week. But honest to god, they offered me 2 bucks per lb...(the night prior I released 60 fish from the surf)

Bluefish are actually quite tasty if you prepare them right. In fact I know several people who *prefer* bluefish over bass and fluke.

I do trade my fish with an organic farmer for veggies...and he loves bluefish. Today I dropped off a dozen nice fat fresh fluke 2 hours old all cleaned and vacumed packed...He's said these are great but I prefer bluefish! But in return I got about 30# of strawberries (that is A LOT), lettuce, brocklie, asparagas, summer squash and some other tasty things. I told him I would drop off 10# of bluefish fillets next week for him....this is the best non-cash deal you can imagine...Tonight for dinner I had fluke and fresh organic veggies that were picked/caught only a few hours prior. yum!

trading is better then cash.

There were times Cataumet Fish would pay 50 cents/lb gutted, back in the 80s.

Other times you'd be lucky to get 15 cents, if you could get anyone to take them.

In August usually get about 50 cents a pound gutted. Right now we are getting any where from 1 to 2 DOLLARS a pound/ gutted. It is amazing. Then you go into Shaw's and it is 14 to 15 bucks a pound. And a lot of people buy it.
